Erin Hills too Easy?

most likely 14 under will win the US Open. I think it's time for a US Open venue that actually proves difficult. I'm not sure why setting up an Open for Par being a winning is such a bad thing?

I think Erin Hills would have been difficult had it not been for the rain and lack of wind this week. Almost any course the USGA could've gone to would have been hit by low scores like EH if they had the same weather conditions

It is a very hard course that has been neutered by the USGA... 60-70 yard wide fairways, fescue cut down on the edges. Additionally rain every night and no wind and absolutely perfect greens... all equal low scoring.

Oakmont got 4+ inches last year and played way tougher. Only 4 players finish under par. -4,-1,-1,-1

Beth page was a flood in 09 and only 6 under par.

Some can be tough. Congressional was a soaker and 20 guys were under par.

Wisconsin Open? I will say that I enjoy the new venues. I get tired of the same ole rotation...

And 30-40 mph wind on Saturday at Pebble. Hopefully tomorrow they will at least use some tougher pin locations.

Oakmont is considered one of the hardest courses in the US all the time so not a fair comparison.

Whether or not Erin Hills plays difficult is very contingent on the weather. This week it's been perfect and the scores have reflected it. On June 8-11, there were 25-30 mph winds and it hadn't rained for weeks. Had the Open been played a week ago, the winning score would've been about -2 or -3. That's just the reality of hosting a US Open at a course in the Midwest. It rains a lot in June here and after it rains, the pros are able to absolutely destroy these courses.

You mean like when it snowed in Tucson haha. Yes I'm kidding that was in the spring. I grew up in Phx, nonway they'd have a us open in 115+ heat. But it is a dry heat...

Will be interesting to see how things play out tomorrow. Wind was forecast for Sunday. Not sure if that is still the current forecast. They get a little wind plus final round nerves and my guess -10 or -11 wins. Course is still holding up well given the perfect weather conditions. I agree that with some wind scores would be far higher.

NO!! It is nice to see some more "normal" scores leading after three rounds for a change let alone see a 63! ... BTW I saw plenty of carnage from the people who missed the cut!

I won't trash Erin Hills. It's a nice (not great) course, and it is picturesque. I also realize that weather conditions play a very significant role in determining how easy or tough a course plays.

My only objections to the setup at this year's U.S. Open are the proximity of ridiculously high grasses to the action, and the width of the fairways.

I don't care how the course was designed to play, or how it plays in optimal conditions, 40-45 yards is simply too generous for a United States Open.

If these fairways were 25 yards wide, even with optimal conditions (firm and fast) only the most appropriately shaped (and aimed) shot would've held them. It would've been a test of ball-striking and shot-making at the highest degree. Or, in other words, it would've been a proper United States Open.

7 of the top 10 players in the world missed the cut, if memory serves.

The scoring average today for the field was right at 72. The same amount of guys shot 75 or worse than the amount of guys that broke 70.

Tell me more about how this course is "easy".

Course is still playing tough but these guys are just too good. USGA has no clue how to set up a major to test the field anymore. They need to go back classic US open venues and pray for good weather

Funny thing is, all the people that missed the cut, missed the fairways. The course was supposed to favor the bombers but the inverse is true especially considering the length of the track. Pits rewarding the people who are accurate and longish - total driving. Personally, I find the course a little unmemorable because there's no defining characteristics per each hole, I'll bet there's way more undulations than what tv shows but overall I think the tournament is great. I've watched every minute.

I haven't played since April and it's so easy I could probably go out tomorrow with no warmup in US Open conditions and sunday pins and shoot about 95.

It is too easy when there is no wind.

On paper, it's a pretty difficult course (77.9/145 from the tips), but that's mainly due to the length. Looking at the ratings from 6750 yards, it's 73.2/135, which is certainly difficult, but courses of this difficulty are dime a dozen.
