Mr. Bayless' move to Fox Sports brings the pressure to drag those declining viewers over from ESPN... ratings data shows this move has only had a nominal effect. One has to wonder how Fox feels about this... my guess is their original ROI model is somewhere in a dumpster at this point.

Looking back through the mists of time, there was a time when Skip was a genuine, award winning journalist. That does not pay as much as being paid to stir the pot on a variety of quasi-entertaining media platforms. Kind of a shame, because he was good, now just a troll, filled with faux outrage and misinformation.

Skip.....It's not only his name, it's also a great recommendation regarding any attempts at journalism he makes these days.

I'm not a Bayless fan and probably would have never even known about his comments were they not posted here, but he has a point. Some of these young guys seem to want Tiger-like adulation and marketing, yet they aren't nearly consistent enough to warrant it. I thought Harmon pretty much nailed it in his comments to Rickie last year.

Some of these guys could benefit by taking a page out of the Vijay playbook - close out a tournament on Sunday, fly to the next site that evening, and be out on the new range Monday morning with the alignment sticks/umbrella, towel under the arm, water bottle, etc. Rinse and repeat. It took him all the way to #1 and had at least one guy asking, "Tiger Who?", lol.

It makes me ill the money this troll gets paid.

Well it's not fair to blame Rickie's branding on not winning.

I think he is jumbling together a couple different things.

One thing is the branding that draws attention to him, the other is the quality of his play vs his potential.

If Rickie didn't have a striking look and a very very defined image (bright colors, flat-brims, etc), would we have the same expectations? There are a lot of damn-good PGA Tour players that just wear normal clothing, play under the radar week-in-week-out, and occasionally have runs at majors.

Then there are players (many of whom probably don't last long on the big tour) who might (I say might because I actually can't think of any) have a image, a certain demeanor that is unique in one way or another. Beef Johnston, and his signing with Arby's...

As for his potential; it is great. But as many people point out, today's tour is not just competitive, but any week anyone in the field can and will win. Nobody CONSISTENTLY is performing, so unfair to call out Rickie.

I give these guys credit for keeping at it with a demanding lifestyle. At least Rory admits Golf is now a business for him, not fun nor about prestige.

It'd be real easy for Rickie or some other of his peers to shut the door on pro golf and still live in the 0.1% (or 0.01% for a few of em) lifestyle.

I dunno, he showed up and played hard like the rest of the 155 who didn't win. But it's pro sports (an entertainment business in the literal sense), which serve the audience. His golf is fair game for criticism, but l think his lifestyle and capitalization that exceeds his golf resume (I don't mean anything by that other than he has more cash than normally-dressed peers with same career earnings/stats) should be kept out of it.

Now, if the expectations ARE high partially BECAUSE he has more attention drawn to him because of his brand, well.... like I said, I don't know if someone with his golf resume could be criticized for not winning a major.

Back in the day that whole thing went to consistent multi-year multi-winners, repeated contention in majors, etc.
