He has double digit PGA wins and two champions tour majors. He's a great ball striker and nice guy who should have a Master's title as well. What would it take for him to get in?

At the very least one more win on the regular PGA Tour to even be eligible to be voted on. At this point KP does not meet the induction criteria for the WGHOF. He only has 14 wins with no majors/Players wins. His Champions tour wins do not count.

http://www.worldgolf...ction/criteria/

Male Competitors

A player must have a cumulative total of 15 or more official victories on any of the original members of the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Sunshine Tour, Asian Tour and PGA of Australasia) OR at least two victories among the following events: The Masters, THE PLAYERS Championship, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

A player must be at least 50 years old at the start of the year in which selections are made (example: A player must have turned 50 years old prior to January 1, 2016 in order to qualify for the Class of 2017), or be at least five years removed from being an active participant (as determined by the Tour) on any of the original members of the International Federation of PGA Tours.

I'm a KP fan, met him while I was playing high school golf and he is by all accounts a terrific person.

But no, he's a major short of the HOF. He should have won the 09 Masters but gagged it on the last two holes the Cabrera got very lucky playing pine tree pinball in the playoff. He's not in, senior majors are cool but not the real deal.

I can't think of a reason why your senior career should even come in to play when talking HOF. Honestly the senior tour is dead, it had it's moments when it first got rolling when Arnie was still competitive, Jack, Lee, then Hale and a few others were doing well. In my mind Tiger killed the senior tour, once he came along it started to become irrelevant. The nostalgia thing was cool because at the time there just wasn't that much golf on TV, the players of that era just werent that dominant or they were European. Now if it went away not many would really miss it. I will say that the guys who played the tour in the 60-70's loved it, because it gave them a chance for a while to make some real money, now they all got money if they didn't squander it. People like Jim Colbert, Walt Zembriski, etc. etc. made a nice little nest egg for themselves.

I think he's 2 majors short - that would give him an O'Meara-type career.

One major would still leave him well short of Couples (who got in under a rule that no longer exists). Couples won the Players twice.

Also has a couple of Euro wins and he won the Johnnie Walker Championship a couple of times.

As much as I really like Kenny Perry, almost all of his success came on the Senior circuit. It's just not seen the same way as on the regular tour IMO.

This has to be a joke. What are Hall of Fame(s) coming to? I haven't read every post here but I agree with the few who have pointed out that WAY TOO MANY average players are getting into the HOF. Seriously, the whole concept is losing its creditibility. I cannot stand this "participation trophy" mentality.

With the exception of the OP, who also implies the guy is short on credentials, no one in the thread has suggested he belongs in the hall of fame.

I think the OP was asking if there is anything Perry can do now to make it. Unless he somehow wins a major that answer is no. He can win 20 senior majors and not make it. But he is exempt into Shinnecock next year. That heavy, sweeping hot draw he hits should work well there. /sarcasm off.

I think maybe you mean as far as Senior majors? Because KP had a very good regular tour career. Short a major he won 2 Colonials, 3 Memorials, thars just for starters. I have not been shy about stating he never had the mindset for reg tour majors, but I will always recognize his reg tournament successes.

Not that hard to recognize, he had 10. That's good but not hof worthy.

Perry won 14 times on the PGA Tour. Had he won a 15th he would be eligible for the WGHOF but with zero majors no chance of getting nominated. Info posted earlier in thread.

I stand corrected. I was thinking of an earlier other thread post I made thinking of a Spieth Stockton Zoeller comparison.

But at 14 and no major Perry has no chance. As you noted he's not eligible without number 15.

Some tour players have had a lesser career than KP based on actual wins but get WGHOF consideration because they won 2 majors/Players.(i.e. John Daly, Andy North, Lee Janzen and some others since they won multiple "majors" and Janzen a Players) with less overall wins than KP. (KP won 14 tour events, LJ (8), AN (3), JD (5) won a combined 16 times on tour but since they won the "right" events they can be considered for the WGHOF). Same as Justin Leonard (1 major/1Players).

Not saying KP should be considered for the WGHOF at all but the majors, as important as they are in golf history, are given too much weight/importance when comparing careers.
