SoCal transplant to greater Houston area

So just relocated to this area (currently in temporary accomodations in Richmond but probably staying in general area). One thing I miss already about CA (probably only thing) is my regular games with the mens club at my course. You always seem to play better with people you know. So looking to meet up with some area WRXers for some fun rounds and small money games. Still in the process of looking for my golf "home" here but its early and I'm really in no hurry. I can still keep my hdcp through SCGA/GHIN till December. I've played two courses so far in the general area where I'm staying and so far not too encouraging. I won't name them but Course 1 was in excellent shape and looked great but I've never seen a collection of 18 more boring greens complexes than at that course. Almost no contour to speak of and no mysteries. And not a real memorable hole in the bunch. OTOH service was great and the grill room looked good although I didn't eat there. When I inquired about membership they wanted $5K/$335. For me its all about the golf and the course and the overall quality of the design and lack of imagination means I won't be going there. Course 2 was a club that had a very shopworn feel to the facilities. It probably reached its peak sometime during the 80's and its been a slow downhill slide ever since. The clubhouse smelled like a cat took a p*ss in it. It's not long (about 6400 from the tips) and fairly flat but offered more challenging sight lines than course 1 on several holes. Greens were slightly more contoured but not much. I didn't inquire about membership as most of the regular members I saw seemed to be in the septugenarian range. NTTAWWT and I'm no spring chicken (I'm 54) but hoping to find a place with a good active group of guys in the 35-60 range who like to mix it up.

Anyway enough rambling. Would like to get a round or two in w/some fellow Houston area WRXers. HIt me up if you're interested.

Thanks. I'm sure Braeburn is nice but looking for somewhere a little closer to where I'm staying to be my golf "home".

you might as well name drop the course, it helps us all out. But if you are looking for a game there is this group on FB called Greater Houston Golfer and you will find a lot of playing partners who play all over the place. If you are in Richmond, a couple of guys from that area are members at a club where I'm at, Riverbend CC.
