AAM Scottish Open 2017

The Scottish Open this year is played at Dundonald Links, the first time the event has been played round what is a relatively new links course, situated essentially next door to Western Gailes, Glasgow Gailes and Kilmarkncok (Barassie) and just up the road from Royal Troon. Prime golfing land having been lucky enough to play the course earlier this year, it should be in great condition for the Scottish Open which kicks off on Thursday.

Notables in the field include

Rory McIlroy

Adam Scott

Henrik Stenson

Rickie Fowler

Alex Noren (defending champion)

Matt Kuchar

Patrick Reed

Bernd Wiesberger

Rusell Knox

Jason Dufner

Rafa Cabrera Bello

Martin Kaymer

Really looking forward to the week, the Scottish Open followed by The Open is, for me, the best two weeks of golf to watch.

Is Koepka not playing in this?

He certainly isn't on the entry list which is posted on the European Tour website.

Always interesting to see how a links appears on TV, but the newer creations, like Kingsbarns are most often quite spectacular. Let's hope for good scottish golf weather. Sun and a lot of wind.

Also interesting to see how Alex will do in his defense of the title. He's not a 2nd place collector like his more famous fellow countryman. I like the guys that wins when in contention, the barbed wire eaters. Tiger in the days has to be the king in that category all time, drained putts the more important they got. Made it so often it got boring.

One of my mates played it recently....said that the fairways are narrow and the rough is high. If thats still the case then it will be tough going. Cracking course.

Didn't get that impression from it when I played it, thought it was very generous off the tee. But maybe that's because I wasn't playing back tee. Very enjoyable course but my impression at the time was the pros would go quite low on it.

The Irish Open had a Strength of Field rating of 288. This week's Scottish Open has a 343.

But watchability of 9/10!

I was not demeaning either event. Just providing facts. In my opinion, the Scottish Open is one of the golf world's truly great tournaments, so I would agree with you. :)

Didn't think you were! (Demeaning, that is, know you are a big fan).

I'll bet you have a favorite past Scottish Open Winner. ;-)

Anybody watch the Hero Challenge on Sky last night? I only saw highlights of Patrick Reed's final shot and his subsequent club / mic drop which I thought was quite amusing. Looks like they had the same hosts as the 6 hole tourney from earlier in the season.

"Carol Vorderman..... I was watching her the other day .....and I got aroused...............7 letters ... not bad for someone who left school at 15"

Gotta love Peter Alliss!

I was busy so recorded it last night but I have heard about Reed's shot. Given that the Hero Challenge, amongst other things, is supposed to target the social media generation, I'm surprised that I haven't seen it on there though. Maybe Facebook, Twitter, et al realise that I am not a big fan of Reed and their coding is now preventing me from seeing him!

Okay, English Setters didn't originate in Scotland, but they still root for the continent!

This little fellow will be home by Saturday night in time for Sunday's final round, and, of course, next week's Open. I'll be up at 4 every morning for the next couple weeks thanks to him, which just means I'll start the days early with live Open golf. Timing couldn't be better.

Oh, and we watched Tommy's Honour tonight. Pretty good and scenes of St. Andrews were inspiring. Next 11 days will be great.

Yeah your timing is better than mine, the day after the Masters is a working day....

I'll take Paul Dunne. He's #29 in the Race to Dubai, but he hasn't qualified for next week's British Open yet.

Dunne... I have never come across a player with an air of rugged Irishness as he has. I could see him blowing up statues of English kings in Dublin...Not the chatty beer drinking Irishness of McIlroy or McDowell even though he might have that as a civilian.

Going to get up early and watch coverage tomorrow morning, I like Fowler this week and at Birkdale. I don't think he'll win but I believe he'll contend at both.
