No one has played it, yet. It officially opens this weekend. There are zero yardages on the course, and as of this past Friday they did not have scorecards available (or yardage books). The range and practice area have been open for some time, but the course has been off limits. The clubhouse will be partially demo'd over the next couple of days, but the course grand opening for members is this Saturday.

However, it's going to be a beast!

This from DMN yesterday...That RATING!!!!!

After two years of work, Maridoe Golf Club will debut its 18 new holes for members Saturday. The private club in Carrollton, formerly known as Honors Club Dallas and before that Columbian Club, began its reincarnation on July 7, 2015, when the first dirt was turned on what has become a new golf course.

The Steve Smyers design uses some of the same fairway corridors as the previous course, but few similarities to the previous layout exist.

"I'm very excited it's going to be open," said Dan Deichert, the club president who oversaw the transformation for owner Albert Huddleston. "We're going to continue to work on the golf course and try to make it better."

The course has five sets of tees and measures 7,834 yards from the tips with a rating of 80.5 and a slope of 155. The next set of tees is 7,311 yards with a rating of 76.7 and a slope of 150.

By comparison, the ratings and slope from the tips (7,404 yards) at Dallas National is 77.0 and 150, and at Trinity Forest, which will host the AT&T Byron Nelson next May, it is 76.0 and 134 from 7,450 yards.

Course rating and slope rating measure the relative difficulty of a course. The greater the number the greater the difficulty. The maximum slope rating is 155.

Deichert seemed slightly surprised by the USGA rating completed last week. Consistently narrow and sloping fairways, deep rough, and water in play on 14 holes were factors in the high rating and slope.

While the course is open for play, Deichert said subtle alterations are likely.

"We're going to spend from now until this fall working on details," he said. That could include changing mowing patterns to create wider, more accessible fairways.

That's a big boy course with that slope rating! I've watched it over the years taking lessons out there and they are going to have a fantastic course and a lot of guys with tour cards practice out of there now.

Titleist TS2 driver & 3 wood
PXG 0317 hybrid
Srixon ZX5 irons
Vokey SM8 50F, 54S, 60S wedges
Scotty Cameron 009 Circle T putter

No kidding on the big boy course...I've read somewhere the owner built the course to his liking because he wanted a PGA Championship or US open. If that slope and rating stay that way, I could see it.......but...does anyone think a Major will never be in Texas due to the weather

If they move the PGA Championship to March, I could see it, but not with the US Open in June and PGA in August. In my opinion, it would be less about the heat presenting a challenge for players, but rather the volume of tournament patrons.

Course layout.

Holy cow, 5, 6, and 7 are doozies

Just 7. 5 and 6 are actually the two shortest par 4's on the course - don't look at the water though... :fishing1:

From my first impression walking it last week, it'll either be #13 or #15 that will take the cake for hardest hole. #13, the bunkers left are deadly - the fairway tilts right to left. #15, risky drive over water, usually straight into the wind - A lot of golf balls will be lost here.. Honorable mention - #12 from the tips (par 3) can be played upwards of 240...

Just joined a couple weeks ago. It is great. The practice facilities are the best around and the course is a fun challenge that will definitely improve your game if you play it regularly. Its a beast the first time you play it but as you get more familiar with the holes, you can score better. I cant wait until the course matures and to watch the process. Its only going to get better.

Congrats on joining! I’m definitely jealous. I was able to play the course the first weekend it opened for a Veterans Torunament. Amazing course and dream about hoping to play it again. The course will continue to get better and better as it matures! Keep us up to date on how the course is!

How are they doing with membership? I don't live in Dallas but office there and have received several cold calls about my interest in membership. Course looks to be a beast.

I went out there one Saturday and talked to a pro in the golf shop. They are progressing nicely, however, a course that high end will take time to gain membership. I did see that Danny Lee was practicing out there....They will start to pulling people from different courses.

Danny Lee really gets around, last summer I played out a Timarron in Southlake and he was on the putting green when I got there with a coach working on a 5 foot uphill right to left putt, 4+ hours later when my round was over he was still there practicing the same putt.

Its crazy the grind that those guys put in. There are so many people that think the professionals just go out and pick up clubs and break 70 all the time, nobody sees the behind seens stuff. I saw the same with Ryan Palmer at Royal Oaks, grinding on the putting green for hours.

Hosting some big Am events...Trans-Miss is a feather in their cap. And, they are hosting the 2020 Southern Amateur Championship. But, to get a major, they will need to demonstrate they can handle thousands of fans (patrons.) Mr. Huddelston has the juice and knows the right people. Southern Hills in Tulsa is on the waiting list after their multi-million dollar renovation. We'll see. Maridoe HAS to be better than Trinity Forrest at hosting the Nelson, that has been a first-class disaster. The Nelson will probably move to TPC Craig Ranch (plenty of parking, hotels, and area restaurants) in the near future...at least that's what I'm hearing.

When you say the Nelson has been a disaster, are you talking about the golf or the logistics of the event?
