i cant decide!!!
I have finally played all the balls i have listed above in search of "my" perfect ball. I however, have not played the Taylor Made Burner TP (which i am assuming is the Maxfli Tour Fire as i have read? i havent really seen anything that disputes that yet?).

anyway, i am a 18 handicap and refuse to pay for a Pro V1/x or a Callaway ix or B330 ball. id love to, but cant justify doing so and loosing balls every now and again...heck, if i never lost 'em, id go for it.

anyway, the list above is pretty much my list of "bargin balls" that i have compliled....

so far my very fav is the Maxfli Tour Fire. i need more time with the Zip. i also really liked the Gamer and 50/50. obviously my time with the Tour Fire is limited so is their any truth to the TP Burner or is that just speculation?

After a long search for a ball and reading the data of Golf Magazines tests, I have settled on the Taylor Made Burner TP. THe price plus performance is the best for me. I was also going the try the E5 but I like the TM's. I refuse the pay the prices of the top shelf balls. Plus I played 4 holes today with a ProV and I gave it away. I just spin them TOO much. I had to settle for a ball with around a 10-11,000 RPM off the wedge and the Burner TP fit, plus it last longer then the TP REDS and PROV's. ANyone can play any ball but 95% of golfers would score just the same with a $1 ball as a $4 ball. It is just a matter of getting used to the behavior of the ball. I have played in big tournements with Top Flites (exceptional spins) back when I was a +2 hcp and my parnters would make fun of me, but I beat them all the time, and would shoot a 69 and they would shut up. SO pick a ball you like that performs for you and doesn't break the bank.

If you like the Maxfli Tour Fires, they were on sale at my local Dicks this week (not sure how long the sale lasts), they had the reg. fire and tour fire for $20 a box. If you have a Dicks Score Card you should have gotten a Spring Catalog a week or two ago with a buy one get one free coupon for the Fire or Tour Fire balls. Ended up getting two boxes for $20.

Pretty good deal if you didn't get any of the really cheap closeouts (a vendor on here had them really cheap recently).

yeah, i have been buying them up...but they are discontinued, so i am playing others as well to find the "next" ball.

the zip and 50 were a great ball, but wasnt sure if it was just at the right time for my game...meaning i was playing well at the time

The Tour Fire may be discontinued but the Burner TP lives on. I bought 12dz Tour Fires from GPP at $12dz so I'm set for a while. I totally agree that it's just a matter of getting used to the performance of the ball. For me the Tour Fire usually pitches forward a bit on full shots but it's no big deal I just allow for that. The Tour Fire/Burner TP is pretty long off the tee also. The E6+ plays pretty similar to both balls in my opinion and would consider that ball as well. They are also on sale at gppgolf.com.

  • 4 months later...

i use both the e5 and the burner tp. the burner is softer and longer, the e5 is higher launching and spins better than any mid priced ball on the market. i choose between the two based on the hole i am playing and wind conditions. i also have a smaller stock of one platinums when there is a general need for a pooload of spin

I think the Gamer comes closer to delivering premium results than any of the middle tier "tour" balls I've used, including the NXT, NXT Tour, Bridgestones and HX Hot/Hot Bite. Unless I'm hitting out of the rough, my ball is typically within a foot of the ball mark on the green. It's soft off all clubs and has a very crisp feel off the driver. Flies a mile. They do not hold up well after hitting trees or cart paths, but I always get 18 out of one, so I can't complain about that.

It kind of reminds me of the old Top Flite Tour (later called Strata Tour Soft I think), which was a fantastic three-piece golf ball.
