I was there and all the fans that where following them the whole day, where stuck at 17... there where too many people.

In fact there where more people rooting for Kuch, but there where also enough rooting for Spieth and really everybody was appreciating the great golf he played the last holes.

I think on TV it might seem that everybody is rooting for Kuchar because of the Kuuuch. But it wasn't like that.

don't take it like that.

i think they felt bad for kooch and showed him the respect he deserved. if theres

anyone more deserving its kooch. that and mob mentality one shouts kooch they all do.

jordan was expected to win, anyways.

trust me they aren't lame. this thread is lame.

What makes them "smart" fans? This is an interesting topic.

The fact that "Mashed Potatoes", "Baba Booey", "Get In The Hole" (Etc., etc.), are not shouted on every shot. They were the exception this week, not the rule. It was quite refreshing, to be honest.

Absolutely correct! I have to admire the British audience, other than the 'koooocccchhh" crap (probably from American visitors) this was a fine audience--plenty of beer in evidence in that crowd but they managed to appear and act sober and mature--none of that unfortunate drunken frat boy behavior that characterizes domestic tournaments.

Europe has had thousands of years to perfect the dignified asshattery.

The US is still an asshattery infant. Terrible 2's if you will.

Having been at the course, spieth got a lot of applause and shouts of "come on Jordan" all the way round the course. At least there was no idiots shouting bababooey or mashed potato.

Whisky tent wasn't bad either! But in truth, both players were well supported and it's only now the next day were all going 'wow, did that happen!' stunning golf

Really?

The "smartest" fans in golf?

Yelling kuuuch instead of ovading speith for after one the most epic finishes ever?

Crowd reactions in general to speith and the end were bad

They probably knew that it was Spieth who won the thing. That's why they didn't cheer for Speith.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

For some reason I dislike when announcers say " these fans are the most knowledgeable." Whether it's British golf fans or any other sport.

I must have too much time on my hands if this is what I think about.

No, it's true. At every event everyone entering the grounds has to take a test about golf. Based on the test results it is determined who are the most knowledgeable fans.

Trust me, seeing British people acting in a sober and mature way after consuming alcohol is the exception, not the norm.

That said, I'm pretty sure "most knowledgeable fans" is code for "don't act like complete d!cks" a la the PGA Tour.

ya don't wanna be yelling mashed potatoes round a drunk Irishmen.

Leave us Irishmen out of it! True about the crap that American fans shout. By most educated really means respectful. True golf fans go to watch events and not sit in corporate hospitality and fill their faces with food and alcohol. Nothing wrong with having a drink and enjoying an event. It's another when you feel it's the best idea to shout "Get in the hole!" at the top of your voice. Some now shouting out websites.

I literally heard someone shout, "Santa Claus is coming to town!" at a tournament this year.

(Just when I thought I was going to save some money after telling my daughter that Santa was not real, some knucklehead has to ruin it for me.)
