Not a good look for Thomas and Fowler

In my opinion it's just not good look for these 2 guys the way they are so happy to have lost to their buddy Jordan Speith. If JT and Fowler had already won a major themselves, then I might would understand. But being perpetually in contention but not getting the job done, it doesn't seem right for them to be so happy, maybe they are content being part of the "spring break crew" with Jordan and that's enough for them. I honestly think all the Snapchat is horrible for Rickies game, what has he done honestly since spring break last year? Been in conentetion a lot and very rarely closing! A must be an old soul, but these guys are too obsessed with being viewed as "cool" instead of winning big time golf tournaments.

I have attention issues so I apologize if I am wrong but is this a recent phenomenon where the other pro's wait around on the 18th hole for their buddy to win ? If I had finished my round several hours earlier I would probably be on my way to my hotel or already packing up. I just don't remember seeing it much over the years and now it seems like every week there are 5-10 with their wives waiting to watch their buddies finish up. I just remember guys like Tiger and Phil walking up to their wives and kids' and hugging them.. I just don't remember any other pro's waiting for them ?

They are professional golfers, making millions. What isnt there to be happy about!

"Back in the day" before social media, tour players had to win to get notoriety. That just isn't the case anymore. Being internet famous is way more important and pays a lot more too. Look at Paige Spiranac, she isnt famous because she never won a tour event. She is Instagram famous and thats how we all know her.

You must not have too many friends...

They are friends, that is what friends do. If you don't win, than you cheer on your buddies to do so. This doesn't hinder their own game. Both of these guys have multiple wins on Tour, and it's only a matter of time before they win a major. They are too good not too at least get one.

LOL...this place is amazing. More examples of what is simply illogical thought processes.

It's so friggin bizarre. So because you haven't won a major you're supposed to be a miserable jerk even though you play golf for a living, date beautiful women and have millions in the bank. Makes perfect sense. Not to mention he's getting on JT for not winning any major but the guy has only played in like five or six of them?

I also truly think that if JT or Rickie was coming down the stretch Jordan would be right there as well. Pro golf can be a lonely, solitary place. This younger group of players don't want to be that way. Look at Tiger, yeah being a bit of a loner made him seem untouchable, but now look at him. He doesn't have that support system. (and I like Tiger) I think Greg Norman said on Ferhity what would he change. He said he'd let more people in.

Interesting...

I think it is awesome having friend stick around and have such comradery (SP?) I actually view their behavior good for the game, having fun and the sort - we need more of that so the sport grows, or even in Ryder cup and competition events, the Europeans seem to have fun, why not Americans! Besides , RF and JT have had successes at different levels in the past and I am pretty sure they will be successful in the future, So all is good.

Pretty sure they all rode the same plane home. So they were just waiting for their ride. Lol

Just like Jordan after St Andrews in 2015. Remember those pictures.

I'm going 180* from the OP. I think we have a real chance for a fantastic era of American golf. I see their relationships more like the pros from the 50's and 60's as opposed to the isolationist mentality of the 90's and 00's. I really think we will see it manifest in future Ryder Cups.

It is hard to be that guy that has to step on the throat all the time. It can be exhausting. I was like that when I was young. I had to win and that was that. I then played on a hockey team that only had three players that had played before and that year broke me from having to win. It still creeps into my expectations of completing with myself but I don't have that same need to win. I am probably a better person for the change but sometimes I still wish I was like I used to be.

I look at Kuchar as the epitome of today's pro athlete. Good guy, good player, and good earner. He has been on tour 17 years and has won 7 times and has made $40M on the course plus who knows how much off of it. I'm sure he would like to win more but not a bad life if he hung it up today.

Ever notice how someone starts ridiculous threads like these and then rarely shows back up to respond to comments? Hmmm

Wow...I'm not sure I even know what to say to this thread because of the serious insecurities in the OP . Pretty certain it speaks to their confidence and mental strength that they have the ability to root for someone else GENUINELY celebrate their win. They know they can be right there and aren't afraid to give that "good energy" to others because they know they have enough to win. The person who is worried about whether or not they have what it takes to win and keep the sword sharp walks away and sulks, he gets angry at others for their success and the lack of his. He questions if he has what it takes and will listen to anyone. Those guys don't last, on golf courses, basketball courts, Diamonds, fields, etc. Be a fu&*ing man and put your arm around another warrior and say I celebrate your triumph but the day is coming I will cut you down, now lets go get loaded drinking expensive $hit out of that trophy.

What would you have them do? Throw a tantrum publicly or privately after their 'disappointing finish' or immediately go to the range/practice area and start prepping for their next event? Go off into solitude and reflect/meditate on the lack of winning?

Would that make you feel better?

Because, you know, these guys live for your feelings and should take them in to consideration in their every move.

I've questioned Fowler's intensity and motivation to win in other threads but I don't see that being the issue here.

Thomas, Fowler and Spieth are friends, neither were in the hunt to win so it's not like Spieth beat them directly. In the end we all have put up a winning score, it's not Spieth's fault he scored lower.

While they may be disappointed with their own performance there's no reason they shouldn't be happy for their friend and want to celebrate with him.
