Maxfli U6 Tour Soft /Wilson Duo U compared

I really love the Wilson Duo U however it does get a bit mushy in the heat. I also seem to "run out" of compression on really hard pure drives. I also at times have had it jump off on pitch shots of say 25-60 yards. Also on 3/4 wedge shots I get more then I wanted. The soft feel is both wonderful and forgiving on all shots. A bit soft off the putter but again I have trouble controlling distance at times. Wonderful hitting into hardened greens, while not the top "spinner" tour balls it lands nice and soft. I felt with the driver on those very very rare occasions :) that I impart a bit too much side spin while with lose of some distance.

Now the U6 Tour Soft. It performs well on all areas. It really has no weaknesses. It is I believe abit straighter off the tee and a bit longer. Somewhat better in the wind, with bit lower trajectory. It does have plenty of bit on full shots into the green, however it takes some getting use to on chips and pitches. The U6 is a little firmer off the putter and a tad easier for me to control.

Both balls are great and could live with either, However I give the edge to the U 6 for two reasons, first it performs better off the driver and putter, second they were 2 for $35 at Dicks with an additional 20 percent off. Price was under $15 a dozen. I bought 34 dozen, all they had, so I'll be playing it for the foreseeable future. The Duo U will always my cold weather ball.

You may as well commit since I suspect that the U/6 may not be around much longer with the introduction of the U/Fli Soft and Speed. Dicks smacked me on the gut when they discontinued the U/3 but they have been innovative for a company that does not manufacture golf balls as its main business. Have fun with your 34 dozen!

My hats off to you sir! 34 dozen is putting your money where your mouth is! I'm also a big fan of the U6 TS and if it was the only ball I played for a while it would be no loss. Well done!

Played it again today, it is doing everything I ask of it very well. I have not played any courses with rock hard greens running 11-12 yet, but only short sided down hill chips and bunker shots may be a tiny issue, with maybe a foot or two more run out over the soft Duo U. I should not be there in the first place! VERY CONSISTANT ball in all aspects of the game. Wish someone could tell us what the overall compression is.

Played the regular U6 as I had a dozen I bought by accident when buying 4 doz of the Tour Softs a while back during their BOGO deal. It's def firmer than the tour Soft but shot a 78 with birdies on 17 and 18 (shew) Really like these maxflis. Kinda makes me hesitant to try the USofts. Oh well, I'm sure I will. I'd rather play these than the Ksigs and I still have 4 doz of them left.

Nabbed 2 dozen of these from Dick's and went out to a practice green. These balls are definitely more "clicky" than the Duos or Callaway SS ( my usual gamers). on putts/chips. Will see how they (and my swing) behave on the course later today.

As I mentioned in a different thread, I don't see much difference in performance using different balls. Probably a case of "it's the Indian etc.."..

I forgot to follow-up my earlier message. Not sure if the indian was on his game yesterday or not, but I was very pleased with my drives yesterday with the U6 Tour Soft. They will definitely be included in my "go to" ball along with the Callaway ss and Wilson duos.

Also, the 2 for $35 keeps my wallet happy.

  • 1 year later...

Does anyone remember what the compression was on U6 Tour Soft?

I feel like that is the most consistent ball for me. I still have about 10-12 sleeves around so I should be good for another year or so. I was trying to do some testing but not having much luck. Played with Vice Pro Soft and Wilson Duo U... kinda like Duo U but they are softer than U6. Vice Pro has too much side spin off driver and I tend to hit it too far right (or I just have mental issue with trying to swing well when it matters... "Ok, let me try this ball, I better hit it straight" *hits a slice* lol). Didn't bother testing Vice Pro+ since it's firmer than Pro. New Wilson FG Tour feels close enough, but I quickly lost the sleeve too due to bad shots so the jury is still out.

Any other ball that I should try that feels the same?
