A funny thing is as I read through this thread there are probably 30 different Fairway Woods people are saying that is the best sleeper Fairway Wood of all time. Are there really that many? If there are that many they all can't be the greatest of all time can they?

So true. But each can be the greatest of all time for that individual, so the possibilities are endless! I think the OP is just looking for various perspectives.

Loved my Exotics CB3, hit it longer than my driver until the face cracked..

I would say all of their older fairway woods were underrated, not a fan of the newer ones.

Callaway Razr X Black had the following characteristics: easy to hit off of the fairway, set up perfectly square, forgiving, and nobody knew about it because the X Hot series came out about a week later.

These were so much cleaner looking than the X Hots, and performed the same or better (which is high praise). Stock shaft was the only limiting factor. The head itself was/is perfect.

Agree on the Callaway Pro heads in several models. XHot Pro, X2Hot Pro or the XR Pro. Players fixate on whether the club looks open or closed. I find lie angle is as big if not a bigger factor. So many upright fairway woods made to accommodate swings coming down above the plane and designed to reduce the slice by raising your hands and aiming the club more left at impact. I find them awkward to hit consistently and easy to duck hook.

Give me a 55 or 56 degree lie angle and I won't hook it. Beyond that I don't go for shallow face or too deep. Like them moderate so I can like the look off turf or tee. That's why I am eyeing the new Steelhead 3+ or 4+, both of which are 1.5 to 2 degrees flatter than the standard 3 or 5. I bet I will have no trouble elevating that 13.5 degree 3+ because these clubs tend to get the ball up anyway. And I am a fan of the cambered sole.

I agree with this post (as you can tell by my sig, I've had an xhot2 in the bag for a very long time). Not sure the XRs are "under the radar" but for the xhots and xhot2s, back then it was all about Rocketballz and you saw Rocketballz in every single bag (not xhots). The xhot2 came with the Aldila tour series (Green, Blue, Red, etc...) *stock*. That was pretty good. I don't really know much about lie angles and all that here. I think those Aldila tour shafts have got to be up there with legit Blueboards and old Sasquatch Diamanas as some of the best stock shafts ever. Jon Lahm is playing a shaft in his driver right now that was stock in the x2hot wood.

I love the Xhot2, its probably my favorite club, and I play my irons +2.5* up (and have an extremely upright swing, on purpose). Just goes to show you how much golf is crazy and dependent on individual preference. You wrote a long thing about how you like it because it isn't upright. My Pro 3 feels incredibly upright, way more than the Rocketballz I've tried and *way* more than the M1/M2s I hit at a recent Taylormade tent day at my local range.

Probably a pretty good club if a guy who loves clubs flat swears by it and a guy who loves clubs upright swears by it.

After trying a bunch of 3 an4 woods, the only ones I found that were forgiving were the Ping K15 and my present gamer, a Callaway Vseries (with an accra shaft).

My favourite was the Callaway Diablo Edge Tour, but I caved the face on it. Callaway sent me a XR Pro 16* as replacement... Just wow. It's a monster and I feel like I can't miss with it.

I don't know if any Titleist products could be considered "sleepers". Great woods though!

Ping K15 fairways are the easiest ever to launch and hit. The only bad thing about them is the stigma of being a high handicap club.

I could list a ton of heads. As soon as I found the right shaft, old Titleists, Adams, TEE's, Cally's - they all became clubs I could love and game. Can't really put one above another.
