Callaway HX Hot Bite

Combining exceptional distance with soft feel and green-grabbing stopping power, the new HX Hot Bite Golf Ball is the perfect addition to the Callaway Golf lineup. This new, technologically advanced golf ball features a softer, high-resiliency core and ionomer mantle layer that combine to promote exceptional feel. The soft proprietary cover generates extra stopping power for phenomenal short-game control to go along with drag-reducing HEX Aerodynamics for highly efficient and long, stable ball flight.

Features:

  • Soft proprietary cover feels extremely soft and allows the ball to stop quickly on the green for exceptional short-game control
  • Soft, high-resiliency core enhances feel and helps maximize ball speed, resulting in long distance for a wide range of swing speeds
  • Ionomer mantle layer works with the core to increase ball speed while maintaining soft feel
  • HEX aerodynamics replaces conventional dimples and virtually eliminates the seam, enhancing shot-to-shot consistency, and also reduces drag for long, efficient ball flight with amazing stability

I went into Golf Galaxy looking for a a few dozen "beginning of the season" balls. My club has some tight holes and I tend to lose more than I care to admit, When I get consistent I usually switch to the HX tour. I am a 13 right now.

Well everything seems to have changed more than usual this year so I asked for some help picking out a ball. The manager gave me some two ball packs of Bites, to try out along with my purchase of the new HX ix tour. I have always liked the HX Hot and spin it just fine, so I expected even more from the Bite.

The bite, for me carried about the same as the HX Tour ix and had good stopping power. However I have a pretty steep wedge swing and can back them up, and I scuffed the cover on 4 straight Bites with full Pitching wedges. The HX Tour ix has a more durable cover, but after a few holes I noticed cover wear, but no shredding.

So I am still looking. By the way, my wedges need to be replaced and my pitching wedge, while not worn out, is no spring chicken so its not sharp grooves.

I think the ball is designed for people actively seeking more spin, who have a lower natural wedge trajectory. If thats you it should be great.

I was talking golf balls with my pro after a lessons and mentioned that I was curious about the HX Hot Bite (HHB). He handed me a sleeve saying "well I've never played them so I can't tell anyone what they're like. Try them out and tell me how they compare with the HX Tour 56." I played 9 holes yesterday with both balls and was surprised with how similar they were given the price differential. The HHB was definitely more 'clicky' off of all of my clubs and had a much harder feel off of the driver. I found they were a little trickier to put with, but the difference again was not as much as expected. I'm a really, really low spin player so I never back balls up on the green and neither of these balls changed that. However, pretty much all shots to the green stayed on the green and most shots with either ball were 'drop and stop'. Other than feel, the biggest difference between the balls was in durability. After 9 holes the HX Tour 56 looked almost new, but the HHB looked like it had some nasty encounters with the cart path (which it hadn't). I could still play the ball after 9, but I'm not sure how much the flight would be affected by all of the nicks and little cuts. At $2.50/ball I don't know how much you can expect, but the performance is pretty good even if the durability isn't. They'd be a great choice for a tough course where you know you need good performance but are afraid of losing $25 on 1/2 dozen ProV1s.

I absolutely love this golf ball! All the previous post are correct though....this ball has a durability issue. It only take a few swings to put some serious scuff marks on the ball. I can get through an entire round with this ball, but it would not be advised to put it in play again.

I switched to this ball from all the serious players ball (i.e. ProV, Nike Platinum, etc) because I decided I would rather pick up 5-10 yards in distance and give up a little spin. This ball still has enough spin to stop, but it is a lot harder to back it up. I also switched because it is $15 dollars cheap per dozen and I don't lose that much performance.

Good ball, give it a shot.

I like this ball. I played 18 with one ball and it does show wear but most balls do. Good distance, good spin. I think I will continue playing this for awhile.

I agree with a few others, very nice performance but not very durable. One of the balls right out of the sleeve had a rough patch on it as if there was a problem with the manufacturing. I liked the feel much better than the HX Hot and it did provide solid stopping power on the greens. I'm not one to really spin the ball but it stopped better than the NXT Tour and comparable to the Taylor Made Burner TP which I liked overall better. Distance was very good but the price would have to come down for me to consider playing it more often.

after playing this for awhile, about 2 dozen balls, I like the spin but they do not hold up well with wedges. Still looking for a better ball.

I was hoping to have a good round with this golf ball but it was not to be. The ball files well off the driver and about as far as any other around that price. The durability of the ball is horrible as you hit it with any iron and it will be scuffed. I also didn't like putting with it as it had a click sound when hit. I will stay with the TourI ball.

Walmart is selling the Callaway HX Hot Bite for $5 / dozen.

So I bought 10 boxes.

Three-piece at $5, awesome!

Good ball.

Hit'em long.

Sounded good.

Stops on a dime.

A lot of spin.

Durability is questionable.

I'll probably be going througha sleeve a round.

Sure like to know where you are located. Wonder if all of the Walmart locations are selling them at that price.

The HX Hot Plus was also at $5 / dozen.

I was actually looking for the Wilson Staff Zip.

Then a sales person mentioned that there were some golf balls on sale in the clearance area.

I was expecting Top Flites or Noodles or Maxflies. But there they were HX Hot Bite and Plus $5 / dozen.

I would check your local Walmart.

I don't know if other Walmarts are participating.

I'm in the Bay Area.

Hello all. I live on the Indiana, Ohio line (about center) and the Wal-marts here have the Hot Plus for $14 clearance and the Hot bite for $15.

Not as great as $5 but i still thinks its a good deal. Ive been picking them up here and there and stocking up. Believe it or not they have shelves full of both.

Liked the HX hot last year, so anxious to try the Plus but ive never tried the Bites. Heck at that price its hard to not make myself like them.

Now if the weather would just cooperate.

Hi guys,

this is my first post.

Just wanted to write about the HHBs, I bought a box recently and have had 3 rounds so far.

Little bit disappointed. Wasn't looking for a longer ball, just one with a bit more feel and stopping power. I found that these go fairly long, but feel kinda hard - basically like the HX HOTs. Left me feeling a bit like all they did was paint the logo green and talk about 'green biting technology'.

I was really looking for something similar to the old Call BLUEs they used to make about 2 years ago. (Anyone remember?).

Can anyone reccommend a similar ball?

Cheers,

Matt.

Been playing a couple rounds with these. I like them a lot.

It spins pretty well for me, leaving gouges in the green a lot of the time (but stopping within five or six feet). I feel bad for the green, but they're easily enough repaired.

I played an entire round today with the same ball. If you don't throw out a ball just because there's a little bit of stripping, you'll be surprised as to how well it continues to play.

Obvious damage, of course, is a no-play scenario. But the durability issues are only as major as you make them out to be.

Long. Long. and long!

They go a mile. They stop on a dime. I actually had to adjust my club selections.

Did I mention they're long. They're clearing them out all over the place. Great deal. Great ball.

Can't argue the complaints about durability, but they're not terrible. Urethane balls certainly shred easier...GENERALLY speaking. By far the spinny-est non-urethane ball I've ever seen.

Long.
