Tattoo and Golf?

Having a visible tattoo on my left forearm and playing golf regularly is something is always on my mind. I get load of compliments but in my mind I never know how people truly feel about it. Anyone else have this issue or play with anyone that does? Thinking about just going with a Nike or some other compression sleeve to cover it up while golfing but would love to hear what you all think about it or how you deal or have seen people deal with it. Thanks guys!

Sorry to get off topic but as someone with no tattoos I've always wondered something... does a sun tan change the look of the tattoo? I guess it would depend on the colors of the tattoo. Does the ink make the skin less prone to sunburn? These are probably ignorant questions but I've always wondered.

Sunlight is a tattoos worst enemy, colors fade quickly with sun exposure, particularly oranges and yellows. The pigment doesn't act as any sort of sun barrier. I've got two spots I've had removed from my arms, you can see how shallow the ink is

Whats the point of having one on your forearm and then covering it up? I've both upper arms done which are partially visible in short sleeves and my left calve which is obviously visible in shorts. Most people I know have tattoos and those that golf do not try covering them up.

Own it ...

This.^^^ I'm more concerned about how you get around the course than your appearance or score. People judge based on appearance, they can't help it. Its those that are vocal about it and share an opinion unsolicited - vocal or otherwise - that I would rather steer clear from as a playing partner.

Many past service members have gone all out with tattoos on legs and arms, many as tributes arising from events across multiple tours. Hopefully those judging would tread lightly otherwise they might likely get an earful from a chorus of folks.

No issue here with those that carry ink. That stated, likely depends on where you are playing, whom you are with and what an individuals tattoo consists of along location of tattoo.

Profanity across ones forehead not likely to be well received.

I thought this was gonna be about golf specific tattoo ideas. I don't have any, can't really think of anything I want to get, but I definitely appreciate the art. It's amazing how detailed they can be. Like other responses, tattoos are becoming more and more acceptable and I would think only a private club might have some restrictions about appearance like that. I have some friends who made bad decisions when they were 18 but they still own it. Stupid sayings or ridiculous characters put in obvious locations (arms/legs/neck) etc AND done by poor tattoo artists. Hasn't kept them from being successful, outgoing individuals and golf buddies.

And the post above with the face tat guy, man he has got some nasty jaundiced eye. Made me think of NOFX (Fat Mike is an avid golfer and he is into some weird stuff). Still one of my favorite bands after all these years of "f'ing up" despite how they blatantly ripped off RKL's style of punk.

I feel bad for you if you're getting looks. I have tats but none visible when golfing (chest and back) and I have gotten one or two looks if at the pool or something, but from talking with folks seems they're commonly just trying to figure out what I have and what they mean.

If you're getting a stink at a course and it makes you uncomfortable, of it happens often enough just don't go back. Plenty of people don't and shouldn't care.

I have one on the inside of my right bicep, only a portion of it sticks out of a golf shirt. The only comments I have heard are those asking to see the rest of it.

Most people that don't like tattoos just shut up and don't comment.

There is an IT guy where I work that has some very artistic tats. A woman's face on his forearm for example, that's striking to the point of my asking about it. Turns out the image is of his mother as a young woman. The artist that did the work on that one was truly skilled. A whole lot better than Yosemite Sam on your calf.

Personally, I don't care for tattoos but I don't hold them against the person though unless the application is over top or in bad taste. I'm not the sort of guy to go in for a styled haircut or fancy clothes either though. I'd rather be judged by my actions than my appearance, either good or bad.

there is no point in caring what other people have to think of your tattoos or anything else about you for that matter. you are your own man and you live your own life once. do not get caught up in worrying about making other people happy or seeking approval. the only person's opinion I care about is mine, and that isn't ever going to change. I feel like if I had to cover up my tattoos on a golf course because someone thought they looked bad I wouldn't want to waste my time giving my money to that course. I have multiple tattoos and they are part of who I am. they tell my story and I am proud to show them off. I love talking about each and every one of them. they take me back to a memory or a place in my life.

As long as it's not something offensive to large portions of the general population (Swastika, gang symbol, pornographic, etc) I can't fathom why anyone would be bothered by it.

I have on of my shoulders & upper arm done and as others have said, the only comments I have ever received on the golf course were men and women asking to see the entire tattoo. I have had nothing but positive feedback for mine.

This is a total d-bag comment, but one of the best compliments I have ever received for my tattoo was when I was playing at Pebble Beach.

Personally I do not see anything wrong at all with it. It is a part of general society now. I have a couple one on my chest and one on my back. A friend of mine owns a tattoo parlor one of his sayings "Tattooed people do not give a :censored2: whether you are tattooed or not.
