How far do you really hit it?

Depends where I am. Locally, at 780’ above sea level:

Driver carry is 270 when I hit it solid,

3 wd carry is 230 (need a new one ;) )

7 iron is 170

When I think I hit it pretty good and far, I’ll play with a guy who can really move it out there and I get a reality check. I know a few guys who legitimately hit it 320-340 and I feel inadequate. Although, at 57, I’m well above the curve it seems.

Edit: sea level brings driver down to about 260 and 7 iron to just over 160. Usually if I play at sea level, it freaking hot so that helps.

51 YO at sea level.

Driver is 230 average, soft fairways. Longest ever measured was 290 and I thought i lost it. LOL. 7 iron 155 carry and a 3 wood is about 210 off the deck when I nut one. Those are real every day numbers. 400 yard par fours I'm hitting driver / 6 iron. so the math holds up.

Only difference is my age.

Odds are our swing speeds are just about even. During the Gear Trials, in cold and with lots of clothes on I was around 90. I know here in Florida I am up around 95 and can get it a bit faster if I am pumped. (Measured one time at 97 but not something I could pull off all of the time)

I hit one drive once, with a STRONG wind behind me, well past where I thought it should be. It was only when one of my fellow competitors opted to go up closer to the green that he located it - some 280 or so away from the tee and about 50 past where I would normally have been.

My new irons I purchased in July have gained about 5 yards for me. Lofts are actually slightly weaker, like 1 degree, but those faces are hot and the ball just seems to jump off of them. Funny to hit an 8 with a slight wind behind to a 156 shot. : )

My golf season is so variant in terms of weather i'm not sure i have distances outside of a lab.

Our weather was so bad this year, windy and rainy all season. We got like 2-3 weeks total of 30C and dry temps.

On a trackman i carry it 270+ with driver. Rarely did that outside this year. Though when the temp was nice i really hit some bombs.

It messes you because all of a sudden it's a nice day and you overshoot greens all day

Pretty much the same as Baitkiller,

I got a gps a few years ago, and found out how far I was really hitting it. Driver is normally in the 220-240 range total. 7 iron, a few yards more or less than 160. I'm 55 5 ft. 10 170. Never had my swing speed measured.

Thanks. I may be a newby here but I've been playing since I was 13. Love the game and have a 3 yr old who shows proficiency already. If he takes to the game then I could have a good one when he gets older.

Lol. That name has been with me since yahoo email back in 1997. Had a buddy who always used to call me getsitdaily (my last name is Dailey). Had to create an email address in 1997 and the only combination available was getitdaily...still have that email.

I'm 55 y/o. My driver SS is between 101 and 105, based on a series of shaft fittings this year. Driver carry average is 255, so in a round I'll have some at 240 and some at 275. My 3 wood is reliably 225-235 off the tee. My 7 iron distance is 160. My smash factor indicates I'm not consistent enough to get maximum ball speed from my swing speed.... but maybe tomorrow...

We generally play at 6,400 - 6,600 yards.
