Midwest Golf Trip Destinations

Looking for some thoughts feedback on places to take golf trips. I normally take a group of guys further south, but starting to look into options possibly through Southern Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois. Typically we do a 3 night 4 round trip, but group is getting older and don't want to travel as far as we used to. Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations for these states? We typically look for good courses at a good value and don't mind traveling up to 30 minutes or so from lodging to get to golf courses each. Just want some good tracks without breaking the bank.

Eagle Ridge in northwest Illinois.

No love for Wisconsin? Plenty of great golf, starting with Kohler and Erin Hills.

Indianapolis is a great city for golf. It's also close enough for a swing down to French Lick.

The Traverse City area of the Michigan has dozens of great courses.

Thanks. Is there more courses around Eagle Ridge in Northwest IL that you would recommend. I could potentially consider Wisconsin, but it just might be a bit further then we want to travel right now. But, I am open to something there if it is worth the drive and won't break the bank.

Unfortunately, not in the near vicinity. TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL is two hours south. It's a bit of a drive, but well worth the trip. 'Probably be best bang for the buck of all the TPC courses.

There are a handful of decent courses near Rockford, IL and along the Rock River, e.g. Prairie View, that you could hit on the way up/back.

Wisconsin Dells is roughly 3.5HRs from Chicago and has some great golf at a pretty good price. Wild Rock and Trappers Turn are in the Dells. University Ridge is in Madison and host Stricker's tournament every year. There is a course about 35min north of the Dells called Northern Bay that I haven't personally played, but is supposed to have 10 or 12 replica holes. I think Wild Rock is one of the nicer courses in IL/WI that you can play for under $100.

If you want to consider Minnesota, many would say the Brainerd Lakes area and over NE MN to Giants Ridge and The Wilderness.

However, if you don't want a 3+ hour drive, one other option if you want a city nightlife and local golf is Minneapolis/St. Paul (as a Delta hub, a lot of direct flight options). Similar to going to Chicago, but obviously not as big. However, if you've already done Chicago, this could be a different alternative. When the Ryder Cup was here in 2016, I talked to quite a few people from down south who were surprised how fun our area was and planned to return in the future (got a lot of I only think of winter tundra when I think of Minnesota!). If anyone plans to do this, I and others will be happy to give hotel and restaurant recommendations. If you belong to a private golf club back home, we can give local private golf recommendations (Hazeltine, where the Ryder Cup was held 2016 and will be again in 2028 along the Women's PGA Championship in 2019) would be a great option if you can pull it off.

A few nice local public options (typical price range $75-$100):
