How much are your monthly CC fees?

Recommended Posts

Yeah I know. No matter how much you love the game, CC fees really can't be justified. It is an expensive hobby (that I absolutely love btw!) and my son has been bitten by the golf bug as well, but my monthly golf nut is pretty pricey. $750 a month (not including cart fees), but we have two very, very nice courses that are completely different from one another. During the summer, I might play 3 or 4 times per week (9 or 18 hoses). During the winter...not so much. Socially, I don't get a real benefit from hanging out with the other members because the place can be kind of a ghost town, but the cool thing about that is that I can basically walk on and play whenever me or my son wants too. Clubhouse is nice, but for the most part, it is pretty boring. The events they host are nothing I would really want to do on a friday night or a holiday because again...they are pretty boring. We have the usual combo of rich folks, pro athletes, retirees, and working folks like me but I like to play a lot by myself, invite friends to join me who aren't members, or just play with my son. Plus, the courses are less than 5 minutes from the crib which is a real benefit. Am I nuts to pay this kind of monthly fee? What do you all pay per month and what is your mental justification?

Thanks! This is the kind of data I was hoping for. If I include lessons for my son and food,

my cost per round is astronomical as well!!

My CC fees are $650/mo base plus cart fees. FYI, the other day I wondered how much I am spending per round played. From my Quicken data including CC fees, cart fees, clubs, balls, shoes, lessons, etc., my cost per round is $180-200.

A ridiculous amount that isn’t worth sharing but I will say that I have paid less than $200 in cart fees in the last 5 years at my clubs. I only take a cart when I’m bringing guests that might have trouble keeping pace. At this point in my life it is almost hard to enjoy golf if I take a cart. Almost. Let me age 5 more years of grumpiness and it likely will be. I can think of at least 8 free rounds I’ve turned down this year at high end places because I knew I’d have to take a cart instead of walking due to the people I’d be playing with.

If the money is instrumental in giving you time with your children, and they come out and play, every penny is well spent. I joined a club to be able to teach my kids to play - with no public course pressure of daily fees, no tee time hastling, partial rounds, unlimited range and practice facility time, and their right to be there.

I never signed up for a cart plan.

Many guys were jealous of me being lucky enough to get to play and spend so much time with my sons.

Now that they are away at college I am thinking of dropping, but I have not decided, but I don’t regret a dime of my membership because of the memories I have of us.

One of the reasons I belong to a private club in the first place is that most of the public courses around here do not allow walking.

$195 month. Includes unlimited golf. A great practice facility (grass range, a 100 yard pitching range, practice greens, a bunker complex, and a short par 3 course (48 to 107 yards), and heated bays for the winter. Also includes a gym membership, and no food or drink minimum.

Wow! Where's this because I'm moving.

Has to be a catch because this is too good to be true. I'm thinking like 100k initiation fee or something. Haha

No catch. :-) When I joined I think I paid a $500 initiation fee...that was about 12 years ago. Not sure what it is today.

Ah it's a 9 hole course and a family of 3 would be $325/month

It’s great for what it is - if I lived closer I’d join just for the practice facilities. But it’s more “driving range on steroids” than “country club”.

Our dues are $640 a month, but we might have the largest club in America and it is always hopping year round. We have 2 18 hole courses, outdoor and indoor pools, bowling alley (duckpins) and a nice health club but you pay extra for that. My bar bill runs well over $600/mo excluding dinning,. It's well worth it though.

I don't see it as a country club either...more of a practice facility. The folks are really nice, and the members are laid back. None of that highbrow crap.

I enjoyed the course and played pretty well One of my friends from work is a member. Your practice facility is really nice, and I was impressed by the number of kids there working on their games.
