Best course almost nobody talks about!

Just looking to find a few gems, that you would put ahead of almost all of the big name courses. I travel quite a bit so I will go out of my way to find courses.

I will start, both of these courses I would put top 5 of any I have ever played. With the exception of Texsport I've barely heard of either of these.

1.) Steelwood CC, Loxley AL - Pretty private enclave but have never been treated better by the golf staff and course is absolutely ridiculous! I never want to leave.

2.) Giants Ridge (Quarry), Biwabik, MN (**** near Canada) - this place is a smoke show with so many stupid views and tee shots. Again, On a nice day I would pretty much play here over anywhere.

    Willow Point in Sylacauga? Alabama.

    Kinderlou Forest Valdosta Georgia

Larimore Municipal Golf Course Larimore North Dakota (only 9 holes but the craziest elevation changes and you'll hit every club in your bag)

Blueberry Pines in Menahga Minnesota, one of the best conditioned I have ever played.

Chaska Town Course Chaska Minnesota. Doesn't get as much attention as Hazeltine is literally right down the road, but in my opinion it's just as good if not better.

Sand Creek Station in Hutchison Kansas is underrated in my opinion.

    North Creek in Southaven Mississippi

How can this be on a list that nobody talks about? Feels like everybody (appropriately) is talking about Sweetens Cove.

Fair enough! A year ago that wasn't the case but maybe the word is out now.

The best course nobody talks about is Wolf Point in LaHood Texas. Wide fairways, firm and fast, lots of wind and as Tom Doak wrote, the best set of greens in Texas. It was one of my favorite days of golf ever.

There are some links about it with a simple google search, but no website for the course, interesting story with this one-

It seems to be a personal course somewhere around Port Lavaca. No idea how the poster got on. NE of Corpus Christie.

Wolf Point is an estate course in Port Lavaca TX. One member only, the course was basically his backyard. Unfortunately the owner passed away last year and the future of the course is in doubt. I played there February of 2016 and it's a fun course though I didnt love it. The greens are just too much and the rest of the course is good but not great. Great conditions, the super there does an amazing job of keeping it firm and fast.

Salmon Arm Golf course in the interior of British Columbia.

Top of my list for best unexpected golf course. Did a buddies trip in the interior of BC and hit up a bunch of the top golf courses (Tobiano, Predator Ridge - both top 30 in Canada). Salmon Arm is the one we still talk about.

I’ll nominate Myopia Hunt Club. It does get some air time, but much less than it should for it’s overall quality (easily top 50).

Shinnecock Hills! Just kidding! I think Tamarack CC in Greenwich CT is a fantastic course not a lot of people know. It is like a master class in golf course architecture. The back to back Punchbowl and Biarritz (#11 and 12) are terrific. Really great course.

The Harvester in Iowa. Underrated even as a top 50 public course. Middle of nowhere, but it is awesome.

My experience at Wolf Point was one of the best days of my life. Ranks right up there with the first time my dad took me to the Masters at 15. It’s the ultimate backyard playground and during my one visit we got a surprise aerobatic show from the owner who is a pilot. Just simply amazing experience. Unfortunately, as discussed above it’s about as private as you can get with zero members and an owner who doesn’t play golf.

There are a lot of courses I like but the one of the better ones almost no one talks about is Bethpage Red course. Everyone wants to play the Black course but Red is a tough par 70, 6,875 yard course that is usually in great condition and provides plenty of risk / reward decisions to longer hitters.

If you're in Iowa DEFINITELY The Harvester! It's incredible. You have to experience it.

And if you're able to, pair it with Amana Colonies. Great elevation changes and layout.
