Crossfield on staff with Titleist (MERGED)

jonsnowjonsnow GeorgiaMembers Posts: 1,270 ✭✭
Mark Crossfield posted a video on Christmas Day announcing he is now on staff with Titleist. Appeared to have a full Titleist bag beside him, couldn't tell which irons were in it. Bit surprising to me as he always seemed to be a Mizuno loyalist with the irons, driver and 3-wood have varied during the years I've been watching.

Glad for him, he puts out a ton of great content & hope this helps him generate more revenue. Hope he is correct that Titleist is not going to try & change him, but will let "me continue to be me."

Good move for him as an instructor, but it seems like the beginning of the end. It's only a matter of time before Callaway and Taylormade follow suit with Shiels/Finch/etc and start feeding them early prototypes for exclusive (glowing) reviews. The days of things like the $500 bag challenge and the club shootouts are probably gone. I wonder if they'll allow a shootout to be posted if their product doesn't win.

Even if Titleist's product is better, it'll be tough to maintain a perception of impartiality while being signed as a brand rep.

I watch his youtube channel for the course vlogs, so this shouldn't make a difference outside of #findmytruvis. His reviews have never seemed overly flattering or unflattering to any club either—I think the worst thing I've heard him say is he didn't love the way a club looked.

Will be interesting to see how things change, if they change, but no one here can say that if a top OEM wanted to sign them to some type of contract you would say "NO", so to call him a sell out is a bit cheap IMO. I just hope they do continue to let him do him so he can do honest reviews. He's always seemed to like Titleist's offerings so it's not some surprise to see him praise them from here on out. They knew who he was before, so if things do change, it will be all on him. I say, congrats.

Of all the manufacturers Titelist would have been second last to Taylormade in terms of who I thought he would've ever signed with. Although since Dan Hendriksen has come onto the scene there's been much more Titleist talk.

I was liking his new on course reviews but they have gotten less about the equipment imo. It’s neat to see they perform in real world situations but he seems less interested in the actual clubs and more interested in how the videography looks.

I want to know all the clubs tech, shaft options etc. then provide playability review.

It seems like it could have been on the cards earlier in the year. He was wearing FJ and seemed to be reviewing a lot of the Titleist stuff but then all of a sudden the FJ stuff disappeared and he was head to toe in Under Armour.

If Titleist can make get him to stop saying bruh in his videos then I might consider watching him properly.

If he does in fact become a sell out, then it'll just leave the door open for someone else to fill in his old role as an unbiased reviewer.
  • ezpzezpz Members Posts: 464 ✭✭
He's been selling out for years with yourgolftravel etc. Not worried about the reviews (if you are just watch Shields) theres so little difference between the manufacturers anyway, once you get the model that fits your swing. And if he keeps showing LM numbers people can check for credibility themselves.
  • DavidvDavidv Members Posts: 734 ✭✭
His reviews pale in comparison to others. Hits every driver about the same distance, same with irons he test. Gets ready to hit, stops to make some stupid remark that is supposed to be funny, then yaks some more before he finally executes a shot. Other than that he is just wonderful. lol

It’s just impossible to give fair reviews when you are getting paid by one of basically only six companies whose products that you review.
Driver - Callaway EPIC SZ 10.5*
    Fairway Wood - Titleist 917 F2 16.5* and 21*
    Irons - Titleist AP2 4-PW

His reviews aren’t anything special. He basically goes out on the course and shows that he can play well with anything and the club doesn’t matter. Some of his indoor live tests with Dan were decent. I feel like he gets a little too comfortable in his videos and try’s too hard to be funny. The guy Ray, regardless of how much they try to prove it, is no more a 7 than I am Tiger Woods. The guy is off the planet most of the time. He must figure his cap like most do on here. Regardless I still think his channel is the best for golf. Those guys from CA, golfaholics I believe, do some wonderful course vlogs. I wish crossfield could edit a video like they do.

    Good for him.

I enjoy his videos. I just don’t have enough time to watch all he does.

What I like most about his reviews is, he shows how much equipment hasn’t changed much, and how much equipment performance between manufacturers is the same. It’s all about being fit for your equipment and playing what looks good and performs best for you.

I hope nothing changes with this contract.

I'm not shocked by this, I'm just glad it's Titleist and not one of the other major OEM's. Just personal opinion there.

As long as we never have to see a five episode special on "The perfect drive" or "The perfect bunker shot" or "The Perfect chip with a hybrid" again, I'm sure I'll be fine with whatever we see form him. I like most of his stuff but that was cringe-worthy at best.

Good for him. I enjoy his content including his reviews. I guess it's bound to happen as he got more popular. Sponsorships being what they are, I certainly would be mindful of it when watching future reviews. But whatever, the main point of most of his reviews are that your skill overrides most technology in golf equipment.
