Ball Comparison-Battle of the $30 Urethane balls!

MajeebusMajeebus Members Posts: 38 ✭✭
Ok. I'm trying to zero in on the best $30 three piece Urethane ball I can find. I want to know what you would pick of the three (if there are other $30 three piece Urethane balls add them in) and why you would choose it:

Taylor Made Project A

Srixon Qstar Tour

Volvik Vibe

I've been playing the Snell MTB for a few years now, and I see no reason to change. Single dozens are typically $32, 6-dozen for $160, so definitely in the price range. I can't tell any difference from the ProV1 that I used to play.

Out of those three I would go with Project a. Great ball. Distance is good and it's great around the green. I'll echo the above and say that the Snell MTB is an absolutely awesome ball as well. Can't go wrong with either of them.

Another that would fit in your price range is the Vice line of balls. I have played the Vice Pro Soft. I see little difference between it and a Chrome Soft and if ordered in multiple box purchases, can be had for $25 a dozen.

Q Star Tour of those three. It’s very spinny around the green and I think it spins less than the Project A off the tee.

Dick's Top Flite Gamer Tour. Pretty good 3 piece Urethane ball for not too much cashola.

Ufli Soft from Maxfli is considerably better than any of those 3 in my opinion, and is prob $25 per doz.

Slightly cheaper and also better than those 3 is Gamer Tour.

Cheap balls from cheap company. Try it to believe it.

You are wrong, the Vibe is a urethane ball.

    Product description

A Urethane golf ball for every skill level! Extremely low compression mixed with high grade Urethane makes this 3-piece ball the perfect “soft” option for tour players, advanced golfers and beginners alike. Combining a “players” ball with a soft feel off the club face makes the VIBE the perfect combination of distance and straightness off the tee shots due to a low driver spin. The 336-dimple pattern ensures an enhanced flight time and optimal greenside spin and short game control that you would expect from a Urethane 3-pieec golf ball.

Another vote for Snell MTB, I switched despite playing almost nothing but Titleist balls for 52 years. However, the MTB is being discontinued and Snell is rolling out two new balls at or before the PGA show. I expect I’ll still be playing Snell next year.

****, I always get those backwards. Too many V’s!

So Vivid is the $30 Surlyn and Vibe is the $36 Urethane. Maybe I’ll remember next time.

I'll have to look into the Snells.

I've been playing the Project As for a while and really like them, but it seems like only Dicks sells them. By that, I mean that when I'm out and go to a golf course they don't sell those. I tried the Srixons and for some reason they do not like me or my driver at ALL! I was seeing some really funcky stuff from them. The Volviks believe it or not were the straightest Urethane ball I've played AND they had stopping power on the greens!

I'll definitely look into those Snells as well.

    Gamer Tour and Ufli Soft.

If you haven't tried both, you might be overpaying for golf balls.

He asked about “the best $30 three piece Urethane ball I can find”. K-sig is not three-piece and he can’t find them.

I had not realized this until I just looked it up. I had thought the Chrome Soft was a 3-piece urethane but it and the "X" are both 4-piece urethane balls according to the Callaway website!

The 2016 (current) Soft is 4 piece and is slightly firmer than the original soft. The X is also 4 piece and firmer again. Sheils and Crossfield have said there is almost no difference between the two in head to head comparisons but I find the X to be a better ball for me. I prefer the feel, and get more spin on approach shots. The X also feels much nicer off full shots for me.

Of the 3 balls in the OP, I'd go with the QST. Fantastic all around ball, as noted above straighter flight off the driver than the P(a) and it's great into the greens. The latest version of the P(a) is very good, but the QST outshined it when I put them head to head.

There are also lots of great deals on 4 and 5 piece balls. No need to limit to just 3 piece. I stocked up on last years Taylor Made Tour Preferred X’s at $22 a dozen with free shipping. On Taylor Made site.
