Hello, my name is Deuce and I'm addicted to golf stuff!

Recommended Posts

It seems I have developed an infatuation with vintage, classic, or just plain cool golf stuff. It started slowly, a few years ago when I found a set of Macgregor Tourney VIP-vfoils(2-56*) in a pawn shop. They were in a Razorback bag with TaylorMade r580 woods(D-3w), all in fantastic shape, and only $100. This was by far the nicest set I had ever owned. A couple of years later, the week Arnie passed, I was looking for some old clubs to play as a tribute to the King. I found a set Palmer FTD irons(1-P) and woods(1,3,4) with Alcoa aluminum shafts, in a beautiful leather Spalding pro bag. The bag contained several mint vintage Dunlop golf balls, as well as a pair(right and left) of black leather Palmer golf gloves sporting the umbrella, and it was sitting on a vintage BagBoy caddie. However, they were a bit above my allowance so I kept looking. Then, later that day, I stumbled upon a set of Tourney Colokromes(3-9) from the mid-50's, complete with Super Eye-o-Matic woods(1-4) that are still glossy and playable. That set ran me a cool $5.50!! Fast-forward to a few months ago, after having opened a restaurant in a clubhouse and needing decor, I decide to return to the flea market where I had seen the Palmer's. Remarkably, they were still around so I did some smooth talking to get them at a reasonable price. It was at that very moment I realized I had developed a passion for golf 'stuff'. Not just clubs, all kinds of golf stuff. A golf bag phone from the '80s. A 'Caddy Shack' golf bag with a little gopher that dances to 'I'm Alright' when someone walks in front of it. Wall hangers, balls, bags, games, etc., etc., the list goes on. I now have 14 full sets/iron sets of clubs young and old, the oldest being a semi-set of 1917 Macgregors. I won't describe them all here, but I plan to share them all as later posts. My point here is that being 44, having been a golfer for almost 20 years, I am just now developing this love affair. I had always 'liked' golf stuff, but not to this degree. Funny how life works, a set of clubs and a need for decor and here I am, a golf-stuff-aholic. Oh, and yes, I love playing old clubs!!
