GOAT fairway wood?

Ok so since it's -13 here, I got to rummaging around in my stockpile of golf clubs. After thinking about my setup that I used last season, I thought about redoing my fairway wood and hybrid.

So here we are...late at night...searching across ebay for fairway woods in really nice shape. Ideally a 4 or 5 wood. Considering a G15, i20, callaway diablo Octane tour, diablo tour, taylormade 300 tour, taylormade aeroburner, and just looking for other options in general.

So what are some of your favorites of all time for fairway woods? Head only, shaft only, combo, lemme hear it!

Yeah, but there’s a chance the question was never answered. Haha

904f and 906f titleist were really good. 910f was atrocious for me. The 913Fd was great off the tee and only ok off the deck. 915F was also ok.. nothing fantastic. The 917F2 has been the best ive played hands down of all the titleist options. I had the Nike covert 1.0 fairway as well. Was pretty good off the tee, but horrendous off the deck.

Ping eye 2 in the 80s and early 90s and the Vsteel spoon.

2016 M2 Tour Issue Deep Face w/ Tensei CK Pro White 80TX is the best fairway wood I've ever hit.

I was always partial to the V steel with a V 2 plugged into it.

Sonartec SS-03 and SS-07

Long when it came out a long time ago and probably just as long as all the new stuff

12.5* Titleist 975F with a DGX100.

I used to absolutely destroy par 5's with this club, and it was long as Hades off the tee.

V Steel and TEE CB2.

Have both and love them both. Cant find anything else that comes near them.

I'm playing a Callaway XR 5-wood with stock Project X LZ 6.0 shaft. It is light at 55 grams and I'd like to try something heavier but I hit it so good I don't want to mess with it. Wish the head was not glued!

V-Steel with your preferred shaft. The 15deg with a RIP 70x, and the TS/13deg with a NVS 80S rotate in and out of my bag depending on weather/course....I have tried plenty of other 3ws and always come back to the V-Steel.

I imagine 80% of this thread will be about the V-Steel. Everybody allllwayyss has to talk about the V-Steel.

That being said, I will go with a Purple Ice shafted V

Taylormade 200 D the fade enhancing model made for Duffy Waldorf originally. All time favorite is a Wilson Staff persimmon Model 304 (pear shaped).

Ping Anser with Diamana Kai'Li 80 was one of the best fairway combos I've ever hit. Really regret selling it..

For me:

1. Cleveland Launcher - The head set up so perfectly to give me confidence hitting any shot, and had the same head in the bag for 10 years. I wore it out a couple years ago and have tried many since, finally settling on a V-Steel. I am close to finding a Launcher again, but not quite there yet...

1a. V-Steel - The head does not set up quite as perfectly behind the ball (a little blockier crown and not quite as neutral behind the ball) but the head feels better and can hit all the shots.

5. Some of the Sonartecs look as lovely behind the ball as anything, I just always was a bit wild with them. The 2.5?? was my favorite of them, and very long.

*I just finally decided to give the CB2 a go, so we will see how that goes. I have hit a lot of stinkers in the last couple years and cannot seem to get any of the newer ones to feel right. The SLDR might be my next try as it looks to have a more classic appearance... Oh the joy of finding a FW wood.

taylormade firesole works for me .

V Steel and TEE CB2.

These two plus a couple of good ones still very much playable today like the R7TP, Titleist 906F2/F4, etc.

Based purely off cult following and mass reviews, I'd say the V Steel by light years. Having never owned one, I'd say its the best just based soley on how many of these threads I've read over the years.

Only if they like them. Do a final tally at the end and, at least, you’ll have one worth trying. (It would be unrealistic to think everyone who answers would’ve tried all available, yeah?)

Anyway...I have a bunch of Callaway fairway woods (original Steelheads and War Birds), but lately, I’ve been gravitating to a v steel 7w I got out of curiosity. I hit it great (relatively speaking) and it looks wicked pretty. If you go through all the v steel cult threads, you’ll either be convinced to try one, or you’ll want to kill everyone who has one.

How did the Purple Ice shaft work out for you?
