How many new courses this year?

Recommended Posts

Almost forgot to start my annual thread. How many new courses did you get this year?

Maybe I forgot because it was such a bad year for me. Just two. Prairie Bluff in Chicago (but it was with three terrific WRx'ers, including the legendary DavePelz4) and Murphy Creek in Denver. What the heck did I do all year?

In early 2017 I set a goal of playing 20 courses that I have never played before.

There was a mad rush at the end of December but needless to say I did it! Finished right at the mark of 20. Work picked up pace in July, Aug, and Sept so I couldn’t get to a new course for those months. Mostly range sessions and no more than 6 local rounds during that time. (Woe is me, I know!) :)

20 new courses flew by in a little less than 9 months time while I was having fun!

Definitely going to keep same goal of playing new courses but I don’t think I’ll go higher than 20! Now this will take me further away and even out of state eventually.

There it is.

I will play 20 brand new courses by December 31, 2018.

My '16 was noteworthy for some of the same reasons, but my '17 was crap. Did not venture to a single course I haven't played before.

My '18 ........ will look for this next year because I think I will have quite a fun list!

You're going to Scotland aren't you Hawkeye?

We are - so every chance I get to play will be fodder for this thread next year. Hoping to explore some new ones in the Midwest as well.

I used to fly every week for business. Now I'm retired and only travel when I have to. Last year included a Scotland golf trip, an Arizona golf trip and a Michigan golf trip.

This year it's Portugal and Wisconsin for sure.

How was Sentry World? I've heard good things about the redo and am planning a WI trip for next year not sure if I should include or not.

Definitely play SentryWorld, its a great track. The 17th par 3 is most certainly a photo op.

While you are there use the salt hand wash in the restrooms at the main clubhouse building -- its amazing.

Just one locally in Wisconsin, and 2 on a trip to Vegas in 2017. This week coming up I plan on 4 new ones in AZ, then hopefully a few more this spring in TN.

If your close don't miss Sweetens Cove in South Pittsburg TN

I'm hopeful we'll pick up two or three new ones in Phoenix next week. But they'll be cheap ones that may not be worth mentioning.

Where are you going to play in Nebraska?

Nebraska hinges on two things:

1) Sand Hills: it’s the one course that would make me go to Nebraska no matter what. Summer or Fall 2018.

2) I have a project we are pursuing in Lincoln for work. If the project takes me to Nebraska and I can’t get on Sand Hills, then I will pursue Dismal River and Wild Horse for sure.

Cool. Good luck. If you are in Lincoln make sure to check out Quarry Oaks. Just 20-25 miles east of Lincoln, perched up above the Platte river. My favorite course in Nebraska.

When you're crossing the bridge heading west, if you look up and to your left, you can see one hole up there about 50 feet above the water.

I like it better than Dismal River and Prairie Club, but I like parkland style courses much better than the wide open ones. It's worth stopping for (IMHO).
