That is quite an impressive team of Europeans considering that this is only a warm up for the main event.

I wonder how they will get on, the Asian team is weaker but the heat, humidity and grainy greens are against them.

Not a bad team and good to see considering that Europe badly need a pre Ryder Cup team event, given that the US have practised combinations at the President's Cup.

The 11 fans walking the course seem to be having a good time. One’s a hot blonde, though, so she’s probably a WAG. Hope they weren’t counting on the gate for anything.

The European Tour had The Seve Trophy (GB&I vs Continental Europe) that was played in off years of the RC from 2000-2013 when it ended. While it didn't always have some top players it gave the ET plenty of chances to mix and match pairings of other players. It's interesting to read that the ET supposedly needed another RC type event like the PC while your actually had one when you kept drubbing the US team in the RC.

The EurAsia Cup originally began in 2006 when it was known as the Royal Trophy. So between the defunct Seve Trophy and the now renamed EurAsia Cup the Euro Tour has had an alternate event for "team building" since 2000.

I was at the Seve Trophy in 2005, it took place about half a mile from here at Wynyard Hall. Without looking it up I remember following Montgomery, Poulter and Casey, nothing much else sticks in my mind.

I had to leave early because there was a Tees Wear derby that day and that was way more important. We lost 1-0.

This current version all seems a bit strange. It always takes place in Asia, although who in there right mind would play over here this time of the year, besides me.

As for who is watching. The Seve Trophy I attended had very good crowds, unlike this event. And the television coverage? It starts at 03:30, right after the Sony, and has just finished now at breakfast time. So unless it has attracted an America audience it is a few people in Asia.

Does this mean it really is a practise session for Thomas Bjorn? Seems like it.

Good start by Asia. I guess one of the main things that keeps this fair is that it is always in Asia, and usually the first event after Christmas for a lot of the European players. A possible idea to keep the President's Cup competitive going forward, because home advantage is worth a few points in team matches like these.

Yeah it's a strange one, I was up at 7am GMT this morning and it was over. European people are most likely to watch it, yet it couldn't be at more inconvenient time. Would be interesting to see TV ratings. Insomniacs and people coming in from nightclubs essentially.

They could have it in Dubai, +4 hours means that people getting up on Saturday and Sunday morning in Europe are watching it when they get up. +8 hours means you get up and it's over. And not even golf fans care enough about it to get up in the middle of the night.

I like the idea of coming in from a nightclub at 03:30 and watching golf! Which one of the three screens do you focus on?

It's not easy! I used to DJ in clubs and the thought of going home and staying up to watch the golf was always better than the reality which invariably meant waking up about 6 am having missed most of the coverage with a half eaten kebab stinking up the place.

Yuta Ikeda is absolutely bananas good...

Top 30 in the world...

And his swing is normanesque....he even has the foot “shuttle” on his driver....

Norman called it a cricket-based move...

I love Ikedas swing...totally old school and he is astounding tee to green...

Should be a total domination on the European front. Who do you think is the most talented player on the Asian squad? The Barn Rat, or Haotong Li?

They used to say that about the US team vs Euro on paper. How did that one turn out?

It's because Asian players play more match play tournaments than in Europe...........

Yeah I went to that , it was fantastic as I love the course anyway and to see the pro players so close up was cool . Well organised and nice weather .

There was free beer and a chocolate fountain, I kid not !

I hope Sunderland won ???? Can’t recall ?
