I love this one. It hangs in my golf cave.

I am not sure when this was taken. I am 99% sure it is at the Open Championship based on the scenery and flat caps but I do not know which year. Please chime in if you have any clues!

I think you are right. Palmer won in 1965 and Nicklaus finished T-12, at Birkdale.

    Thanks!

So your 1965 Birkdale picture sent me down the rabbit hole of the 1976 Birkdale open championship...

Wow! Fashion really took a turn between 65' and 76'!

Thanks for starting a great thread, I hope it takes off. I would love to find some more photos for my golf cave. I really like the ones that you don't see everyday. Like that one of Johnny holding the jug, I've never seen that one before. The old standby's are cool but it seems that everyone has Hogan's 1 iron at Merion or Nicklaus/Palmer/Player/Watson crossing the Swilcan Bridge for the last time.

Don't know who that is standing on Seve's right (our left). Looking at the winners, I can only guess at a young Mark James. If so, that's the first time I've ever seen him without a mustache.

I'm trying to work out who the four golfer are on the right hand side of the picture. It looks like (L to R): Jack Nicklaus, Ray Floyd, Tom Kite, and Freddie Mercury, but Nicklaus looks so small next to Ray Floyd that I thought at first it was Ben Crenshaw.

Walter Hagen with the trophy at the 1929 Open

This is a classy pic, it speaks to me. Hagen was perhaps the best match play golfer ever to grace our game, lashed at all shots, and a colourful character to boot

People used to wear suits and ties to watch golf .. there was no "get in the hole" BS

How about a cigar and single malts for an evening with this gentleman?
