How heavy is your 33" putter?

Golfcat

Recommended Posts

I have always used a 33" putter. From cutdown Pings, to cut down Cameron's. loved the fact that he went to 350g heads, and then 360g heads. But now, even at 360g, the swingweight is c9-d1. 35" putters play at the "tour preferred" d6.

If this is the case, shouldn't we be using 370g heads to get our swingweight up, or is there a reason a shorter putter should have a lighter swingweight,

I have a 364g Mills, a 365g Seemore, and a 370g Guerin Tour Spec. Much prefer the 370g mallet.

What weight are you using?

Recently I have also have noticed that I prefer a heavier head. The standard 350g is not doing it anymore for me. I am adding more and more tape to the bottom. My concern is I like so heavy that the tape it becoming substantial enough that I a€™m concerned about duffing it against the green.

Scotty selects all come with 20 gram weights when they are 33’s. That makes them 370 I believe.

15’s At 34”. 10’s At 35”. I am not a Scotty expert so anyone else can chime in. I just know that’s how they do the weights.

I play a 33” ghost spider with heavier than stock weights in the weight pods and a little bit of lead tape as well.

I don’t know what the actual head weight is. Swingweight is D-0. There is no “rule” on it. It’s just preference.

I believe I read that Phil Mickelson’s SW is only in the upper C range. Don’t know where I read it so I can’t provide a link.

I thought Selects were weighted like this;

35” with 10G weight = 340G

34” with 15G weights = 350G

33” with 20G weights = 360G

I believe it’s 350,360,370.

Reason being you aren’t going to have a 33 inch putter in the D swingweight range if it isn’t at least a 370 gram head.

Maybe we can do more research

Edit... Just popped over to the Titleist site. Apparently it varies by model. So....oh well.

I'm right around 33" and have had success from 340 - 400 grams. At least 10 are between 350 - 375 and that seems to be a good fit. Grip weight and material has an influence on feel. I fiddled with lighter, heavier, bigger, slimmer, synthetic and leather grips. I seem to enjoy stitcback leather grips the best.

In short, I've putter well (and poorly) with many different putters. I'm going to experiment with a UST Frequency Filtered shaft to see if I can feel the weight of a 335 gram head at 33.5".

I’ve noticed all my putters being 32.5 feel and swing weight very based not so much on the putter grips weight but the thinkness of the putter grip. A d6 with a superstroke 2.0 and a d6 with a flatso 2.0 in which are the same weight grips have a total different feel. So I very the headweight from grip to grip putter to putter.

I play my TeI3 at 33.5 and 330g. This is coming from a 365g Potenza and I thought I would never say it but the lighter head feels great

Here's an older Scotty Cameron weight recommendation chart. Notice how as the length gets shorter the swing weights inherently get lower. In my opinion this is to keep the total weight from getting excessive.

I play my putters at 32.5" and done a lot of trial and error with different heads and grips. I've found that total weight is almost more important to me than swing weight and really don't care for anything that gets over 530-535g. My two favorite putters come in at 525g and 530g, both with a swing weight of C5. I believe the heads are around 360g.

Putter Length to Weight Recommendations

The following table provides a guide when changing the length and/or weight of your Scotty Cameron Studio Select putter.

  • Every Studio Select putter has two factory interchangeable weights. The individual gram weight of each weight is listed here.

  • Swingweights are listed with a +/- 2 swingweight point range, as the actual swingweight of any given putter may vary within these ranges.

  • One inch of shaft equals 6 swingweight points, so please take that into account when changing shaft lengths.

Heavier = Adding 10 total grams additional head weight than Standard, which adds 5 swingweight points. Extra Heavy = Adding 20 total grams additional head weight than Standard, which adds 10 swingweight points.

I believe mine is around 365’ish. From what I could find out the Studio Select NP2 head is 320g, plus two 20g weights, plus a few strips of lead tape to cover up the sight line. :)

428 gram Heavy Putter mallet

428 gram Rife Switcback XL

not sure what my signature says but I just weighed them tonight and measured them .Both a hair over 33". Im a pretty decent putter and play these freakishly heavy heads because thats all Ive used from Day 1. Everyone that tries them says they're too heavy everyone elses that I try feels too light to me.
