New vs used irons

Looking at a new set of irons around $250 range. Found new leftover Nike VRS covert X and Cobra Fly Z for $250. Also I have seen some used 710/712 AP1s around this price range. Looking for opinions on my 3 options.

I would take a look at Callaway Preowned. If you find a set your looking for give them a call as many times they will give you a 10% discount if you ask.

@OP, have you demo'd either of your choices? If so, which were your favorites? There's nothing wrong with buying used if you know what to look for...

although there's always some bargains to be had if you have the eye, in terms of used clubs.

i recently acquired a nice, gem mint set of used vintage blades (barely used, left handed) that were quite inexpensive!!!! really nice set man.

just depends on how much time you wanna spend combing ebay and stuff :P

fly zs are solid though if youre not looking to invest too much time into looking etc.

i think the best advice i could give would be not to be hasty in making your purchase....but lmao i think we all know how that turns out just about 99% of the time ;)

I have not purchased a new set of irons since my 1999 Hogan Apexes. IMHO, it's a little easier for folks that play blades, because lots of people buy them, don't like them, and sell them with minimal wear. I bought a set of Titleist 680s that were near mint for $300. New, they went for something like $800-900.

I don't know what the going price is for AP1s, but irons that are 6-8 years old should be pretty cheap relative to original MSRP. Look at the "sold" items in ebay for the clubs you are looking for and sort for the lowest price ones. That should give you a good idea of what kind of bargain you can get.

IMO, you should buy what you play the best, vs what is the cheapest (unless your budget is very firm).

Try CallawayPreOwned.com, 3balls.com, etc. for some good buys as well as ebay. If you buy something that's in very good shape it's hard to tell them apart from new clubs, I've had very good luck over the years. However if you want newer models is hard to beat a quality fitting and the new technology. Cobra would be my choice too.

Cobra will fit 5-25 handicap. That is a big plus

nothing wrong with used clubs sometimes they were just played a couple of rounds. Just like buying a car the first guy takes the biggest loss then if u don't like them u can always resell and sometimes even make money

712 ap2s should be around $250, I would imagine ap1s would be less. I did a trade in value and got $250 for my ap2s a year ago, so it might be less now actually.

Totally agree here. One can get the proper shaft and static fitting from them and away you go.

If you are brand conscious ignore this advice.
