2017 M2 irons

The head pro at the club at work at just gave me his old irons(what a move, right?!) He i۪۪s such a good dude to work for. Total animal.

So he gave me 4 iron thru AW, 2017 M2 irons. With KBS tour c-taper 120 stiff shafts. And brand new GP MCC standard grips with align. Love everything about the sticks. But guess, what! The 6 iron and 5 iron caved in! And the 7 iron was making the same sound and some shots were noticeably offline(I would admit it fully if it was my fault.) I know I’m not the only one. Very frustrating.

So I sent them back to Taylormade today and will get a call tomorrow about replacement options. A few people seem to think they a۪۪re just gonna send me M4s(and I was assured by the PGA SS manager that they woul۪۪d include the same shafts and grips.) I do no۪t like to get my hopes up, so negatively I a۪m assuming I wi۪۪ll get 2017 M2 irons with stock stiff steel and tour velvet Tm grips. I really am hoping for the best though. Exciting times, cant wait to see how it plays out.

(I am new here. Is this where this kind of random post material goes? I am pretty much just telling you all about something going on in my golfing life in regards to my clubs.) hit em straight, everyone

@Golf64 - Let me give you my input on what you said, because I hear you loud and clear and used to agree.

Until a year ago I had been playing blades and players irons for 5 or 6 years and liking them very much. And I have always said I need them because they are more precise, they have more workability, etc... Now I have reversed my thought there.

One of the best ball strikers at my club is Joe Inman(multiple time PGA Tour winner) and he plays a set of PING G30s. Last month he played 9 and made 5 birdies and missed a 6 footer for a 6th.

Larry Nelson(have you heard of him?) is also a member at the club. I spend hours with him on the range talking about equipment, he too is known to play a “game improvement†set of irons.

I asked both of them why they game those and not the latest and greatest MBs out there and they both asked “Well, why DONT YOU play them?†To which I responded “I cant work them.†Larry Nelson said something along the lines of “When was the last time you had to hook a 7 iron 85 yards? Is it the problem of the irons being TOO straight? Say that out loud and listen to how silly it sounds.â€

I think they are both right. Game improvement irons have so much technology now that distance control is a non issue, and in fact, distance control is phenomenal off mishits. My scores have gone lower since I’ve made the switch away from a traditional “players club†even though I fall into the “players†category. The clubs hit the ball higher, but the shafts are there to control that. I shot a 31 on the front 9 today and did it with my 712 AP1s. I hit every green and made some putts(3 birdies, tap in eagle on par 5). The only thing stopping me from playing a game improvement iron is ego, and I like playing good golf too much to let that get in the way.

TLDR: I like “game improvement†clubs. They go straight. If you don’t like a club that goes straight, I think you’re hurting yourself.

@Kohodges1721 - Yeah, he’s a good dude.

On the 16th green today I got the call and TM is gonna send the M4s with same shafts and grips. A couple weeks and I’ll be in business. I’m stoked. I would’ve never spent the money on something like this, but they’re exactly what I’d have bought given the budget.
