Nippon Modus 125 Wedge Shafts

I've always played DG-S400 or the DG-S200 in my wedges! Anyone have any feedback on the 125 modus? Is it worth the change........heard fly hey feel as smooth as there iron shafts!

Tj, with my personal experience, I will only play the Nippon 125 Wedge Shaft from now on. The shaft feels smoother to me than DG and I can flight the ball high or low with no issues. For me the best wedge shaft I have played to Date.

Agree with above. The Nippon 125 wedge shot is great; the 115 wedge shaft also is very good. My favorite wedge shafts - firm, stable and smooth, can knock the ball down and the balance is very good.

I’ve played the 125, the 115 and now play the 105. They are all fantastic wedge shafts. Smooth and stable and for me they add 300 to 400 RPM of spin.

Far tighter dispersion and control flighting wedges at my target than either the DG S400 and KBS for me. Since I play the Modus 130, this feels most familiar without going to that iron shaft. Worth the upgrade and it transforms a wedge compared to when I try the fitting stock. There's enough of a smooth feel in the shaft without that loose, bendy feeling and I get a satisfying crack at impact when it unloads. Even though it's low torque, you don't really notice it and the spin numbers are where you need them to be.

What differences did y’all see between the 125 and the 115?

The 125 was firmer and flew lower. It was too heavy for my tastes. The 115 was better. Less weight gave me better feel. Piercing shots with spin were easy. I settled on the 105 Wedge because it blended best with the 105 Stiff iron shafts. It felt all around more responsive for me. I like to use swing speed changes to add/subtract distance. The heavier shafts didn’t spin enough when I played soft tempoed shots whereas the 105 retains spin better.

Are you getting your wedges re-shafted or OEM?

I am going to call Ping and see if they carry them.

Would agree. I've played many different shafts in my wedges and the Nippon 125 isn't going anywhere. I usually play my iron shafts in my wedges, but decided to try out the modus 125 wedge shaft and it is excellent. I have zero complaints about it.

125 vs S400...which flys lower/flatter?

To me the 115 and 125 felt similar in profile just a bit more weight. Since I was going 115 gms in irons, the fitter recommended I go a little heavier in wedges. I used the 115 when I was using Nippon 105s in irons.

To me and my avg Joe speed, the S400 feel more stout and not as smooth as the 125 wedge. Because of the smoothness and feel of the 125, I can control trajectory better w 125 than S400. I can hit the 125 lower and flatter. I suspect an xs swinger would feel differently. I hate soft wedge shafts like the Spinner - the 125 is not of that kind.

Thanks for the topic and replies as I was about to post the same. I will give the 125 a shot coming from a soft stepped X100.

I have the 115 in my 56 & 60 right now with my 105x on my irons and 52 since i take full shots. still love it all throughout.

The 125 is one smooth shaft. I really like them in the wedges. Plenty of spin and easy to control flight.

Talked with Ping today. On special order they will install Modus 3 wedge shafts in 105, 115 or 125.

Said it would take 2-4 weeks.

I am going to order 50 / 54 / 58 Stealth 2.0 wedges

Modus 105 in my i200 irons and 125 in my MD3 wedges, results have been excellent.

Does the Modus 125 Wedge take an adjustment period? Just switched after playing with KBS Tour-V and KBS-Hi-Rev. The Modus 125 Wedge certainly feels a lot more “stout” compared to these, but you know exactly were the ball is going.

I was hoping that the Modus 125 Wedge would have a lmore “softer” feel to them similar to the Modus 3 120/125/130’s; but my initial perception is that the Wedge version is very “crisp” and precise. Is this a fair assessment, or am I missing something? If I was looking for a softer feel would it be bettter to stick with the “iron” version of the same series such as 120/125/130?

I recommend just trying the Modus 115 wedge shaft. The name is misleading, it weighs 122 grams.

I agree 100%. I just custom ordered TM MG black in 54 & 60 with the black modus 115 wedge shaft. They’re gonna look sick! I’m going to definitely post them once I get them.

When I saw that the 115 wedge was 122g I was sold. They’ll match up perfectly with my modus 120s

When reading the huge Nippon thread, I thought the difference was that the new 125 wedge was a tad softer. If you search WV 125 on the site, you will find other threads.

Just ordered a 125 for my 56. Have one in my 50 and am pretty happy with it.

Does the flex profile change at all from 125 to 115? I have the 125 in my 54 and 58 currently, but my irons are all 125G. Turns out the Modus 125 is closer to 135 grams, which is pretty hefty. I'm wondering if going to the 115 could help me out in any way.

Anyone know what the difference would be between the modus 125 wedge shaft, and the wedge shaft from a set of modus 125 shafts. I know the actual 125 wedge shaft is an x stiff, but I see the new slate blue vokey has a stiff 125 modus wedge shaft. Confusing. I know.

I run 115 in my 50 degree and the 125 in my 55 and 60 degree wedges. Feels great.

Hmm. Considering a similar setup. Is there much of a difference in your opinion?
