I beleive its another boutique'y type brand similar to something like Malbon Golf, which has some really cool stuff as well. Just trying to set themselves apart from the mainstream brands building more of a following based on the allure of having something that not many other people do. Similar to the way Supreme does it for urban skate culture. Its as much as building the hype and a lifestyle as anything else.

I like their stuff though, from what Ive read it was a group of friends that grew up playing golf togther in the Pinehurst area, went seperate ways, then reconnected after becoming disanchanted with the corporate jobs and lives they were leading. I think they are trying to pay homage to the Pinehurst area as well as the traditional golf culture of the 60's and 70's while in an untraditional way... Just my $.02. I think this is exactly what golf needs, brands like SSC and Malbon Golf are making golf cool again.

Been following SSC for a few years now. Recently had a pop-up shop in DC so I went by. I like some of their stuff and they just launched a partnership with Penguin to do some golf shirts with them. Most of their stuff is out of my price range (not about to drop $100 on a golf shirt or what not) and are all limited runs so they sell out quick. A lot of it is good quality (headcovers are Winston Collection, some of the other accessories they offer are Smathers & Branson) but the hats and visors seemed to be way overpriced for the quality of the blank visors/hats they use to put their logos and designs on. I think of SSC like a smaller boutique Travis Matthew or Matte Grey; a golf "lifestyle" brand but with more of a retro/throwback/classic vibe.

It's a lifestyle brand. Everything they source is custom made so yes, it's expensive. Plus they get a cut. I'm bitter that I didn't come up with it. They make bank

I'd add that the other thing that makes their stuff expensive is that they order in small batches. They aren't ordering runs of 1,000 and getting the kinds of volume discounts bigger companies do.

I'm a SSC honk and am totally biased, though. :)

#PlayorPerish is actually very poignant. Goes hand in hand with #GolfisLife.

I don’t understand the disdain for SSC. They’ve were down at Pinehurst the same time as my group. Seemed like nice enough fellas who enjoy playing golf.

I don’t own any of their gear but a couple of my buddies do. Whimsical. Fun. I dig it.

I highly suggest anyone check the website out first. Read the message. Look at the hidden gems map. Look at the course and design posts (i.e. non-merch posts) they have on instagram. They are MUCH MUCH more than the limited run merchandise they release. I like the stuff they release but that is just me. However, I haven't bought any of it because of timing and my budget. Nonetheless, I love their mission and goal to always remember the simple classic enjoyment of being on a golf course with your first set of hand me down clubs enjoying the visuals/design of the course and a good time with friends.

What's funny is Seamus, Linksoul, Vice, etc. are all after the same thing, only they don't try and take some in-your-face moral high ground. That just comes natural by being outside of the mainstream and making really quality, custom products. I love what those companies are doing and have thrown some serious coin in their direction.

SSC is taking the opposite approach by trying to lead by having some greater good, only they don't. They're not a 501©(3); they're in this to make money. That's fine, but don't tell me I need to buy a visor, polo, and headcover to understand.

If their slogan read "Buy or Perish" my attitude towards them would likely be different.

Chalk me up as another that doesn't understand the dislike for them. I like that there are companies out there that have unique ideas for golf gear. Not all of it is for me, and I don't buy it all. But you bet I'm in for some pimento covers, just wish I hadn't hesitated on the pimento belts as they look great.

Not everybody has to like the same thing, and that's perfectly fine. Let people like what they like, there's no harm in that.

It’s like when you loved ‘15 or ‘16 KBS, but you had an ‘18 and it was terrible. Does that mean everyone can’t like it? Of course not. We all have different tastes, you know?

The merchandise doesn't move my needle, but I do loosely follow them on Instagram. Hand ground Don White wedges, and Patrick Boyd ferrules led me in their direction.

I really enjoy looking at their course photography and discussing course design. Would love to travel from course to course playing with my closest friends.

Happy to see so many are digging the SSC vibe.

+1 I just ordered a hybrid and alignment stick cover...

+2

I'm all in on Loafwich leather gear this year. Driver, Hybrid, Putter, alignment sticks. I'm a huge Scotty Cameron guy...and the Loafwich covers are (to me) appealing the way Scotty's older covers are. Simple dancing logo on a solid field. Scotty's gone away from that, and I cannot stand the AM&E driver/fw/hybrid covers he uses, so SSC's offerings were no brainers for me.
