MacGregor Tony Hsieh irons??

Any info about these someone can share?

Seems a Japanese model only maybe based on a VIP muscle??

Definitely custom ground model irons- Likely a Japanese model

The Memorial 312 Model, 5 iron stampings, and satin finish are not from previous MacGregor models found in their US catalogs.

The "Custom MacGregor Tourney"soleplate and "Oil Hardened" stampings are 21st Century...almost as if done by Laser program.

No drill-thru hosel on the Persimmon Driver- what does the face/insert look like?

Any Reg Nos on the ferrules, or on the neck?

Sorry i cant help with information but i must say that the satin finish is beautiful, flawless even. Same goes for the shape of the head. Almost a shame to play them. Almost.

You know your looking at a serious blade when you mistake the 5 iron face pic for the 2. Whew!

I've seen these come up on various auction sites in Japan occasionally. There are apparently different models, but the "312" seems to refer to Tony Hsieh holding the lead in tournaments (on the Japan Tour, I think) for 3 weeks or 3 tournaments, a total of 12 days. I.e., 3 tournaments = 12 days of competitive play.

You seem to have the satin finish, which seems to have come out in 1985, and looks very much like the Muirfield 20th in finish (see first link, which includes specs). There's another shiny chrome-finished version which looks quite different (see second link). Personally, I think yours might even be different again, as they remind me more of my Muirfields, and NOT Muirfield 20ths. Possibly a custom model? Anyway, I'm pretty sure they were a Japan-only release.

Beautiful irons! The satin finish is reminiscent of the Muirfields for sure.

A native of Taiwan Hsieh Min-Nan ( Tony), played professional golf in Japan. Known for winning the 1972 World Cup in Australia also the individual title.

Contributes to the PGA growth in Taiwan.

There would be demand for the stamping in Japan and Taiwan.

Bet the local Taiwan PGA would love to have that MacGregor Stamping.

Unknown what type of shafts yet! Could be graphite.

Maybe the lighting in the photos tricks my eyes but reminds me of Golden Ram Tour Grind's a bit. Great looking irons!

Damn those are beautiful irons from address.

High Module Carbon Graphite is one of the earliest graphite shaft, together with the Boron Graphite shaft were popular in the East Asia market in the late 70's and early 80's. Considered rare and expensive back then.

I had a guy brought over a custom made set for him, shafted with Boron graphite shafts and the woods were 100 % resin. The shafts felt heavier and stiffer. Might still have it somewhere.

Now the big question is to whether to display and keep as is OR reshaft the irons and get them onto the course where they belong.

Also guess it depends what sort of $$ they could be worth as is. A collected (rather than just a player like me) might really like them for a display piece.

Finally back and got them in my hands.
