England / Scotland in Early July

Hi All,

I'll be golfing with a buddy in England and Scotland (mostly in and around St. Andrew's) in early July. If anyone is around and wants to join or just grab a pint please feel free to reach out. Also, we could use dinner recommendations in or near St. Andrews.

Here's the itinerary so far:

July 3 - Royal Cinque Ports (PM)

July 4 - Princes (AM)

July 5 - Currently free (open to suggestions)

July 6 - 2 rounds at N. Berwick

July 7 - Castle Course (AM) - Elie (PM)

July 8 - Jubilee (AM) - New Course (PM)

July 9 - Old Course (PM)

July 10 - 2 rounds at Kingsbarns

Cheers.

A couple of places I enjoyed for dinner in St Andrews:

The Russell Hotel restaurant

Jahangir for Indian food

The Central for pub food

Munch, I bought a bacon roll every morning to take to the golf course for lunch. The sign outside said "Probably the best bacon rolls in the world"

favorite pub was the Whey Pat, far enough from the courses to see mostly locals and students, instead of American golfers at the Dunvegan

Wow thats an expensive week of courses!

I would play the new course rather than the castle, and make sure you go for a drink at the jigger inn

I really don't know why people like the new course so much.

I didn't find it interesting: yes, a good link but I thought it wasn't worth the 70 £.

Castle course: I loved it, way more various, up and downs, great holes.

somebody suggests to play kittocks, which is near the castle, way cheaper and quite similar (I played torrance which is in the same resort).

For eating cheap fish and chips, cromars in the center of st. andrews

A group of buddies and I will be in Scotland for just a four full days in early July but we actually happen to be playing N. Berwick twice on the same day as you. That would be great if we could grab a couple of pints afterwards.

For dinner

The Sea Food Restaurant

Little Italy

We stayed at the Russell hotel, great staff and hotel and breakfast, food in the evening ok but not spectacular.

Both in St Andrews Centrum.

The Dunvegan and Jigger inn for drinks.

The Road hole bar as well.

If you got time play the Himalaya putting course.

As well Crail Balcomie , the old one .

Have a great trip8

Countdown for Augusta!!!

Just came back from a 4 days trip in Scotland, with 5 courses played.

We played, in order of preference: Jubilee (I didn't expect it to be so good, as I didn't like at all the New Course), Elie (incredible views and really beautiful course, the only pity is that it has 2 par 3 and 16 par 4), Kittocks (next to the castle course), Leven, Monifieth (next to Carnoustie).

Check the site https://www.teeofftimes.co.uk/ as you'll find incredible offers, specially last minute: in 4 we payed 104 £ for Leven, 180 for Kittocks and 120 for Monifieth (more than a half of the normal price).

Ah, you'll have a really hard day playing the castle course and alie the same day, both courses are really up and down and quite exhausting!

would like to hear about cinque ports ...

Royal Cinque Ports and Princes ?? All very dry and brown I suppose?

Royal Cinque Ports (often known as Deal) is a links course on the Kent coast. It's a stunning (and I mean stunning) example of a traditional out-and-back links course, a must-play for any enthusiast. I don't work there before anyone asks!

I absolutely love it.

You can book a package by staying at Prince's Lodge and playing Prince's and Royal St. George's, but a fun thing to do is to stay in Deal as there are some great pubs and restaurants to choose from.

All the courses here drain exceptionally well, so a winter trip is also feasible.
