My custom set of Miura Giken CB-1008 irons

Recommended Posts

I ordered a custom set of hand ground Miura Giken cb-1008 irons from Tourspec Golf and wanted to share the finished product. What I had changed from the standard set of irons is a thinner topline (thinnest Miura factory would do), double nickel satin finish with copper underlay, less offset, a shortened and sharper toe, no paint fill, sole relief on the leading and trailing edge, and heavier heads. I had them shafted with Project x lz 120 6.0 shafts. I put perforated stitch back leather grips by Best Grips in black with skull and cross bone stamps. Finally I finished them off with custom ferrules in black with navy, orange, and white rings by Boyd Blade and Ferrule. They were built to standard length and lie with lofts matching my Srixon z965/z765/z565 combo set. My set is 5-pw, here are some pics of the 5, 7, and pw.

Great looking. My range I go to is 5 miles from where you live....maybe I could hit them? (just kidding).

Navy, orange and white...Auburn Tiger fan?

Great clubs, congratulations. Hope you love the way they hit -- let us know!

I'm considering a set of 1008's also.

Yes, definitely an Auburn fan. I would gladly let you hit them, where do you play?

I don’t know about the tube sock ferrules but other than that those are sweet! Awesome set, congrats!

Different strokes.

I really love the look of the ferrules. Would be a shame to leave that gorgeous blank head with a bland black ferrule.

I hope they treat you well. Thank you for sharing the images.

Go Tigers.

I don't play often, hit balls 2-4 times per week at Marietta Golf Center off I-75.

Tend to play Echelon (in Crabapple) the most often.

How do your new clubs hit? Hope you love them!

I know the place, I tend to play Cobblestone and Governor's Towne Club. I haven't hit them yet, hopefully this week though.

Leading and trailing edge relief is a nice touch. Hearing these are reasonably forgiving heads on mishits. They sure are beautiful.

I agree, that is a nice touch. I have been playing these irons for about a year now and they are amazing. I am a Miura fan for life now. I wish I would’ve customize them the way that you did, but being fit for these was the smartest golf decision I’ve made. I play 4-PW and find them as easy to hit as any other CB iron.

My biggest fear in playing Miura is the sharp leading edges they are known for. My weakness is too quick means unfinished turn back means steep on the way down. Try to avoid it but a softened leading edge can help. Wonder if they would soften the edge of Baby Blades, or is it sacreligious to even think of doing that?

These look great. I actually ordered a custom set through TSG on Friday. Quite similar to yours.

Mine will also have no paintfill. I'm also getting satin and also the leading edge grind (no trailing edge though). I added a degree or two of bounce to the heads. I also strengthened the 7 to PW lofts a touch. I actually ordered 2 PW's - a 45 degree one and a 49 degree one which will be my AW.

I even thought about leather grips but ended up going with Iomic stickies. Maybe one day will get leather. Shaft will be Nippon 105's.

I'll post pics when they come in but they should look similar to yours!

You should post some pics in the CB 1008 thread in the JDM forum.

Those look nice. How does the feel compare to the Srixons?

Still tbd, that'll be a fun shootout. I have the same set up in both other than the grips. The Srixon's have been great for me. Just comparing them the cb-1008 is shorter blade length, less offset, thinner topline, and a bit thicker sole compared to the z965.

I ended up buying heads only, they didn't offer px lz shafts. Plus I had the grips and really wanted to use some custom ferrules.

They do custom on other Miura Giken heads, I didn't see the Baby Blades listed. Like you, the sole relief is a must for me.

I've heard nothing but good things about them in the forgiveness department. I just had to go custom since it wad an option.
