Our friend gave us an early Christmas gift today... Roku, using Amazon and sling, can't believe it so great, just using internet now from Comcast... Not sure at this time if the GC is part of any of what we have, not an issue really as I have not watched it since the PGA Championship.

You may have it on Sling depending on which package you have. I believe it's a $10 sports add-on to the Blue package only, though...

This is why this forum is so great. Not only are there knowledgeable people but there's always a topic that's relevant. Me and the wife are considering cutting the cord ourselves. We currently have 1 gig over 1 gig internet for 100 bucks a month and Direct tv for about 130 a month. The current offer for Direct TV is your first year is half price and then the last year is full price. We also have Netflix as well. Sounds like Sling tv and YouTube are the apps to go with. All in all after we get two apps, we would be saving about 80 bucks a month.

finally went and cut the cord. using roku sticks in the tv's with a youtube live package. savings of nearly $70 month and not giving much of anything up . still have the GC, still have dvr service to all tvs. i get local channels. i think the only thing i'll 'sacrifice' is the dolby atmos surround sound as i'm not sure youtube offers this yet.

I have SlingTV and use an antenna for local channels. I love it. Don't miss Directv one bit.

Hulu now has streaming TV in addition to their existing Hulu recordings, all in $40, including golf channel and the other things my wife likes!

hulu tv and youtube tv are similar. the main difference is the user friendliness and interface is so much better with youtube tv.

We just bought fire tv from Best buy for 50 bucks which is the 4k version. We get HBO for life through AT&T and we have Netflix. We're going to add Hulu live which has many channels compared to DirecTV live. So the internet is a must have for gaming at 1 gig over 1 gig. Really just adding Hulu for 45 bucks a month is a savings from 128 a month is 73 bucks a month. I'll be handling in my equipment to DirecTV before my next bill is due. Dilly Dilly.

Got rid of Direct TV about a month ago...not one single regret! We have hulu/netflix, sling tv, and my moms xfinity account log-in:) My wife, two young kids, and myself watch WAAAYYY less TV.

Any of these cable alternatives have a DVR included, if so how many shows can it record at once?

most all have cloud dvr. i'm a new user, but i think you can dvr at least two shows simultaneously, maybe more

i actually find youtube tv dvr easier to use when watching golf and skipping commercials than cable. you can scroll through the commercials frame by frame and get back to golf much quicker than using the fast forward button on cable. tough to explain but you'll get the idea when you try it.

most of these services offer a 5-7 trial period so its easy to test before dumping cable.

no more cable boxes and wires everywhere, no more contracts, i can move a tv to patio and watch live tv without needing to use extension cords and moving cable boxes.

YTTV isn't available in my area just yet. hopefully soon but my wife and I are now really considering this. may just start off with sling tv. i get all the local channels easy with some bunny ears and a flat antenna.I may just put a bigger one in the attic for the whole house.

our cable bill keeps going up. $60+ in "fees" alone is ridiculous.

I use GearsTV with Mayfair guides on my Fire Stick. I don't have a DVR, but I can watch any live TV in a setup that is the same as any cable provider. It also only costs me $18.50 a month to use. For watching already aired Movies or TV shows I just use the Cinema app.

If anyone is interested in cutting the cord let me know and I can post the links and install guides.

I wish the golf channel was live streamed on the new NBS sports gold app. Want to cut the cord but need the golf channel at any and all times. Any other options outside of Hulu, sling, YouTube, etc?

And prices keep going up.... I'm currently at $45 for PS Vue and they're having issues with a lot of shows skipping and freezing at peak times. Not my internet, have a gig.

So switching to Hulu and they're raising their price to $45 this month.

So yeah at the same price as cable save the equipment rental fees. So annoying

It's still worth cutting the cord for me as I am saving around $1K per year. However if these streaming companies keep jacking up the price it will be very interesting to see how the market reacts.

Yeah, I'm sure for folks that are spending a LOT extra or find a streaming package that gives them their favorite channels without a ton they don't care about it's still a good deal. It's just frustrating that the price is jumping so fast.

This. Years from now, people are going to look back and wonder why we wasted so many precious hours watching TV. Same can be said about the internet (excluding Golfwrx OF COURSE!)

BTW I haven't owned a TV in a few years and it's GREAT! Best shape of my life, better relationship with my friends/family. Life is all around us, some of us just don't know it!

With internet, youtube TV (with everything you need) and Netflix do you actually save money. I have direct TV with internet - 4 TVs with DVR and its $150. Any chance I can save and have a similar setup?

Youtube TV finally was available in our area from their last push last month. we're going on our 2nd month and enjoy it. saving $100 per month from cable. switched to a 300mbps/20 internet plan which is plenty fast for $35.99.

anyone having any issues going near or over their internet providers data limit. comcast gives you around 1 TB of data. typically this is plenty and most won't reach the limit. however if you're in a household where young kids are home throughout the day or you have family who often watch different programs so you use more than 1 tv simultaneously, you'd use data a little quicker.

now that more streaming options are offered at higher quality, streaming at 1080p or even 4k uses more data as well.

just curious if anyone has had data issues?

I am looking into this as well. Currently have DirectTV and pay around $140 for TV service, no internet. Who does everyone recommend for best internet and streaming services? I am an Amazon Prime member but ive never looked into what they offer streaming wise. Thanks in advance.

I just went through this and honestly until I started streaming I didn’t realize any providers still had data caps. Anyhow I dumped AT&T and went with Spectrums Gig plan and the difference in picture quality is quite noticeable and no worries about data caps.

YouTube TV is the most popular choice. though it all depends on what channels you want. you don't need super fast internet speeds. even 25mbps will work. owning your own modem and router helps keep the cost down also since most ISP's charge rentals for their equipment. https://broadbandnow.com/Georgia/Cumming?zip=30028

We have never taken access to the internet seriously in this country, just another thing to exploit people financially over for an inferior service to what is available elsewhere in the world. This is the 21st century, we should invest in internet access as we do physical infrastructure (okay, hopefully better than that given the present state of our infrastructure).
