Best Bag, Vessel, Jones, Stitch, LinkSoul

Recommended Posts

Looking for a non "name brand" bad, something without logos all over...something cool and different. I don't want to pay for a MacKenzie....and want a few more pockets, preferably a stand.....

Looking at Vessel, Jones, Stitch, and LinkSoul...

Thoughts?

The Stitch is a beauty, the Jones is too small. Why so esoteric when the OEMs do so well? I can understand the MacKenzie, but not really the others. They're just $$$, not better. If you're serious about the MacKenzie, check out Eliott. They're half the price.

Just looking for something different, everybody has a TM or Sun Mt. bag...I want something that is unique in general

That’s correct in my estimation. They’re an inch too small causing big club tangle. If you carry the occasional extra putter, orange whip, etc., they’re impossible. I’d been on the hunt for the same thing and ended up with a “collegiate” Ping Hoofer. They come with no logos for special embroidery, CC a nd school logos. Can’t beat a Hoofer.

I have a Jones original and with 13 clubs it’s ok but any more than that and it is crowded... they are great looking, great quality but will agree, a little too small if you carry 14. Went back to my Srixon Z four. The collegiate ping bags are really cool and the vessel looks like a nice option but not cheap!!!

The Vessel is extraordinary and no logos. Staff bag material, built to last. I'm on my second, went from stand to cart. Probably the last bag I'll ever buy.

I second this.

I had a Linksoul before and as soon as I pulled it out of the box I thought, "where's the rest of it?" It's deceivingly small.

The Vessel is smaller than other "name brand" stand bags on the market, but it has the perfect amount of pockets and space - in my opinion.

One of the best parts of the Vessel bag is the fabric. It cleans so easily and is a soft durable material.

You won't regret a Vessel. Just my $0.02.

I also have the Jones original and love it. I use midsize grips (but a relatively small putter grip) and carry up to 13 clubs. But I agree that the 14th club would likely make things awfully tight.

Which Jones bag? It's not the worst bag, but I find there is considerable binding... just wanted to know if I am missing something..LOL

I was in the same position as op last year. Went from titleist staff stand bag to Jones utility. Wanted something not aggressively logo’d and a little lighter. I think it’s a great bag. Yeah, it gets a little tight with 14 clubs. Periodically I carry 15. Sometimes clubs come out or go in and get a little stuck, but not to the point that it is annoying. I also appreciate the fact that I don’t see many, if any at all, Jones bags where I play. But, to each their own.

Also, this might be a part of my imagination, but it seems like there might be a little less aggressive bag chatter with less wiggle room for the clubs.

I have a Mackenzie ballistic walker, a Jones Utility stand, and a Sun Mountain 2.5+.

If you want a Mackenzie you should get one at some point. They are incredibly nice and the experience of using one is really great. The ballistic models are awesome and not nearly as expensive as the leather. I have an all navy one and I love it.

But sometimes a stand is nice too! I particularly like my Mackenzie for carrying 8 or 9 clubs and not a full set.

So I got the Sun Mountain 2.5+ and I have to say it's a really great functional walking bag. Walking 18 with it is great!

But it lacks a little of the panache of the Mackenzie! So I went looking for something practical and cool like the Mack. Ended up going with a Jones Utility Stand bag. This is a great looking bag but I honestly find it a little small (with 12 or 13 clubs using midsize grips) and the devider system with the hoofer style stand actuator leads to more club tangle than I'd like. I love the look and vibe of this bag but functionally I find it a little frustrating. Actually not terrible in a cart though.

So yeah...that is my experience. I'll be using my Mackenzie with my minimalist set and most likely my SM 2.5+ for my full set. I still have the Jones around and I may try it a few more times as I really do like a lot of things about it, but the club tangle just bugs me.

Was recently in your position OP.

Bought a Cobra King 14 way. Was advertised as full length dividers. Lies. Avoid.

Ended up with an Ogio Cirrus (3.2 lbs) from Global Golf for $119 shipped after discounts. 7 way top with dedicated putter well. Haven’t gotten it yet, so we’ll see.

But, I really wanted a Vessel. They did a give away on WRX. Reading the review thread/seeing the pics made me want one. Maybe PM the winners and get a longer term update? I’m getting one if this Ogio Bag doesn’t work out.

I heartily recommend a Belding vintage soft Sunday bag. I picked one up a few weeks ago and after 5-6 rounds I can say that I love everything about it. Minimalist but well crafted with waxed canvas and leather. Here’s my initial review.

word on the street is that jones is going to be putting out a stand bag with a bigger opening. but it's an unverified story.

That's a good idea since everybody agrees that 1" larger would solve most of the issues and not seem much bigger. I think they kept the bag at 8" for some strange "image" reason but it's just not practical. They'll double their sales with this update. Besides that, the bags are awesome, especially for the money. Everyone I know that has one has bought during the annual holiday sale at Christmas.

The quality of the Jones is obvious the first time you take it out of the box. I have had two of the Jones that have been scooped up by family members. I am ready to order a 3rd, however I will admit 14 is a tight fit. I came across a Superstroke putter tube that straps on a stand bag easily and acts as a putter well, it's not ideal but it does makes for a little more room. If Jones does come out with a 81/2" opening they would be tough to keep in stock. Maybe this is why their website is down to just a few color options. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

It seems Jones is phasing out the current utility stand bag. Very limited options on their website. Maybe a new product coming? Hmmmmm......

Leaning towards the Vessel currently. I think the Stitch looks cool. While the leather MacKenzie and Elliot’s are awesome I just don’t know if they could be my everyday bag. If jones would release the slightly larger stand bag soon I think I would take a hard look.
