Who is playing 44.5” driver?

After a year of driver issues, I have Areoburner mini. I am thinking about getting G400 Max at 44.5”.

Do you lose significant distance?

Not that I have noticed. I play 45" down from 46" and choke down a bit, effective playing length about 44-44.5". Only thing that took adjusting to was my spine angle. Being a little bit of a tall fella, it was just some adjusting that needed to happen

I am 6'2". 44.25" for me and I saw no decrease in driving distance. In fact, I saw an overall average increase in distance due to hitting the sweet spot more frequently.

Literally just switched from 45 to 44.5 a couple weeks ago. Longer straighter and better control for me. Tempted to try 44 but my season goal is not to tinker too much. Iam fairly short 5'9 as well. Once I slightly adjusted my set up it clicked and has worked well so far.

    Driver playing length has been 44.5" for a long time. image/beach.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':beach:' />

PS: "NO" you don't lose distance, least I didn't. Yes, a 45.5" or longer driver will contribute to added distance. Unfortunately, most golfers are not consistent with longer shafts.

I play my driver at 44.5 inches. With stock shaft(45.5-45.75 inches) I seem to hit the longest shots along with shortest shots, best shots along with worst shots.

With shorter and heavier shaft average distance should be in fact same or longer for me. My swing is more controlled and balanced also.

I actually swing 44.5" consistently faster than 45"+. Figured this out this off season went down to 44.5" and I've never driven the ball better.

I play a 44.25 driver. I had to play with the loft and some lead tape to get the launch angle and weight right, but it has paid dividends. More fairways hit and about the same distance. I would prob say I gained a little distance.
  • jholzjholz Members Posts: 1,353 ✭✭
Shorter is definitely better for me - 44" inches for many years now. No loss in distance, much better results overall.

Mine is at 44.5". I had one before at 43.5". Solid contact in the sweet spot is a lot more important to ball speed than the club length. Half the time I choke up on my 44.5" shaft as well.
  • slide13slide13 Members Posts: 1,330 ✭✭
Yep, 44.5" here. Have tried down to 44" with a different shaft but my 913 D3 with Diamana White at 44.5" has been the best driver I've ever used. More consistent off the tee than ever and plenty long still.

Playing a Rogue SZ @ 44.5" and choke down 1/2". Set at 8* loft and Xstiff shaft with heavy weight forward.

This works well as I have long arms and don't need the 45" + length drivers.

44 here and I do not slice the ball anymore, so I am gaining the distance that I lost from the push slice at the end. I noticed Phil Mickleson choking down on it today at the players.

I ordered my G400 Max here in Japan at 44.25 with the Attas Coool shaft. It’s been great thus far. It felt very short at first, but I have adjusted to the look of the length just fine. I’m 6’3” which had a friend of mine scratching his head when I told him how short the driver is but the results have spoken for themselves.

Ordered my G400 at 44.5 and it’s money. I used to play 45’ and the half inch makes a huge difference. Just make sure you make up for the lost weight.

I just switched to a 44.5" driver...had one at 44 I tried but like the 44.5 combo best.

Moved to a 75g hzrdus black topped 1/2" and plays d3.5 in my epic sz.

I like it so far! Misses are a lot better than even my 45" I played last year.

44.25 or maybe 44.5, it depends on whose club measuring device you use. I never checked.

I'm short with longer than average arms. No way in **** I'd be able to play a long driver without throwing my back out. Any length that gives you better contact will be longer than pure swing speed.

Same setup here, got it cut down from 45 even about 3 months ago and really improved my accuracy and strike it much more consistent. No loss in distance, increase if anything due to more consistent strikes.

Been playing 44.5 since the beginning of last year. It was the best thing I did with the driver. Although it was a mess until I got the swing weight back to where I like it at D2. I hit it straighter, with more control and if I've lost yards I haven't noticed. I hit 13 of 14 fairways my last round and am consistently 11+ fairways. Unless that changes, I'm not looking to make any changes.
