The right foot

I've always struggled with pushing too hard off my right foot from the top of the backswing, which leads to a litany of problems (swing path, pushing my head ahead of ball, pushing my lead hip outside my lead foot) which usually leads to a thinly hit slice/fade. I usually hit a draw.

So what I've been trying is to keep my right foot down as long as possible, which has been pretty effective. But, I've noticed even though I keep my foot down I push and my head at times ends up ahead of the ball at impact. Then I've experimented with a more upright posture which also has helped. So I'm thinking my weight distribution has something to do with it.

I'm wondering why I'm pushing off my right foot so hard, and so early.

What I noticed watching yesterdays players is how flat footed both Webb Simpson and Danny Lee were.

Any one have advice or thoughts on this??

In transition focus on loading DOWN into your right foot push point (base knuckle of the right big toe). This will cause the left hip and knee to move slightly laterally and start to open up. The pressure down into the right foot push point should not result in a big target wise lateral thrust but rather should provide the necessary leverage to get the right hip moving to the target ... pelvic rotation!

My rear foot pops on downswing and I tilt pretty good instead of rotating like you're describing. Monte has been putting up instagram videos of putting a ball under your rear toes and hitting balls to keep pressure in the heel. I modified that and started setting up with my toes off the ground and pressure in the heel and it's helped a lot. With driver and longer clubs the foot still comes up some, but overall it's a ton better.

Try standing on only your left leg and see what “oh ****!” thought pops into your head. Whatever it is, that’s probably the ‘why’.

Think ice skating or rollerblading. You push (and more like the force of taking a step) away and behind you about 30*. This will give you a lateral shift and facilitate the rotation of your hip. Can do this at home on carpet with the help of a furniture mover - no club needed. Tyler Ferrell has a video on his site for this drill.
