Japanese Fairway Woods?

What are good Japanese fairway woods? Easy to hit off the deck, forgiving and good distance?

Prefer more recent.

Japanese FWs are good because you can find lots of FW with full titanium bodies and faces. In my experience this translates into more ball speed vs. other tech. I tried the Callaway Rogue FW earlier this year and did not see any increase in ball speed comparing to the non-jailbreak epic FW as an example (I do see ball speed gains with jail break in the driver).

I recently purchased a Kamui TP-XF 3W. Mine is paired with a Tensei Pro White. Awesome combo, I must say. Very long, real easy to hit off the deck. Really couldn't ask for more.

Ryoma F3 is an incredibly long and forgiving beast! Most times I can match or exceed my driver distance off the deck. It’s the only club in my bag that has a PERMANENT spot. A true equalizer. I’m never worried about my mishit-short or slightly errant drives as it almost always gives me a shot at being on in regulation. Can’t count the number of times it’s bailed out my unworthy arse!

Doesn't Tour Edge make all titanium heads for fairway woods? What makes Japanese titanium fairway wood that much better to justify the cost difference?

How do you test the clubs before buying?

Do what I did....

Ditch the 3wd and 5wd. Replace them with the Exotics EX10 Beta 16.5* 4wd ,

and the EX10 19* hybrid.

The EX10 Beta 4wd uses the Japanese SP 910 titanium cup face , allowing for

more weight to be moved rearward. Compared to the EX9 Tour it has a deeper ,

higher CG. Makes for a higher launch, more forgiving , yet still maintains

lowish spin. Very versatile..long off tee.. performer off the deck...

Seeing as how you are also looking for a " freaky long hybrid " the EX10 19*

hybrid would fit right in distance gap between the 16.5* EX10 Beta 4 wood and

your 22* Ping. It also is slightly higher launching , more forgiving , and

longer than it's EX9 equivalent. The stock Recoil shaft works in this head,

for those with mortal swing speeds.

Give a look at the Tourstage X-FW Type-T. IMO it's one of the best values in the JDM fairway world. You can pick these up dirt cheap and it's an all titanium head with a ton of tungsten weight in the sole. Slightly larger head makes it easy to hit off the tee but super low COG which also makes it very easy to hit from the ground.

maximum distance-ryoma d1 f3 & prgr egg original.

very sleek , these get used on very long par 5courses.

best combo off the tee and fairway, prgr mfd 16.5*. irreplacebale in my bags. over taken the longer ones above bec. of its better versatility ,launches lower and higher and uber straight but lacks monster distance of the ones above. for mid distance course i just use this gives me an extra.club choice of 2 drivers or2putters. bug help this thing.

owari !

I believe Tour Edge has titanium faces and steel bodies. So not full titanium. Full titanium construction will lower CG comparing to steel bodied FW. I believe that is why they are also more expensive. Is the amount justified? Well, that is for you to decide.

I am not able to test before buying. So, it is an expensive hobby ;)

If you like a shallow, wide profile, the older Yamaha Inpres D Power Spoon is a rocket. The stock Orbit shaft is pretty good, too. 15 degrees, easy off the deck, all titanium, not too upright, unlike a lot of JDM woods.

Baldo Competizione 568 and JBeam RX-FW for the ones that I’ve ever hit.

I am now putting Baldo Competizione 568 FW with the “Fire Express FW 65S” shaft in my bag and it is really nice. The head is more of a low-spin head but since the weight is moved into the back side, the launch angle is not low. So the balls actually go high from the deck.

For the ball speed, it is actually higher than the Callaway’s Epic or Taylormade’s M2.

The face angle is neutral and the head itself is a bit of like an anti-slice heads. (Well, not too anti-slice tho)

Also, the head it self is 170cc so doesn’t look either too small or too big.

It is the best fairway wood that I’ve ever hit so far from the point of the distance, forgiveness and the design.

However, the price range is so high. Only by the FW heads, it costs 50,000yens which is about $455 in the USD.

Fortunately, I was able to purchase a nice second-hand one at the Japanese store called Golf Partner.

For the JBeam RX-FW, it was pretty much similar to the Baldo’s but I assume it is a harder to find.

Other than the two,I’ve never hit but Roddio Fairwaywood is actually becoming pupular among the golf manias. Hearing the people’s voices, they say that it does fly as far as the Baldo’s but Roddio seems to be more of an anti-Slice head.

jBEAM Glorious is great off the tee and fairway. Easy to launch and forgiving too. I know who has one for sale, super cheap :)

If it’s any help, I just picked up a pair of Srixon F65 fairway woods. I believe they are from late 2017 and came with an orange ‘tour issue’ shaft. Despite being an equipment ho, i didn’t bother to check the specs of this setup after nailing 240-250 yard shots off the 3w and 5w and finding fairways. This from a guy who has not hit fairway woods since 2009, my last one being the R7 tour issue TS, 15 and 17.5 from the WRX classifieds back then. Have never been able to hit fairway woods until these came along. I’m sure the 2018 model is much more forgiving but at USD110 per club (used), I couldn’t be happier.

Srixon Z785 w/ PX 6.0 HZRDUS yellow (S) shaft
Srizon F65 3w (15*) w/ stock Miyazaki Kaula (S)
Srixon Z U85 20* driving iron
Taylormade P7TW irons (3-PW) in S400 tour issue shafts
Taylormade Hi Toe 54 and 58 wedges

X2 on the PRGR Egg. I’ve had the HD version in the bag for the past theee years and can’t say enough about how it performs. Only thing I could wish for was a little deeper of a face, but other than that, it’s awesome.

14 Beaten and Battered clubs,

a few balls and tees,

tattered golf bag and

one unwavering spirit that loves the game

I agree about the deep face. I have the same Club with a fuel tour spec and it hits stupid bullets off the deck though.

Talk about value, I picked one of these heads up for 1 yen + shipping on Yahoo Auc! Looking forward to shafting it up and seeing how it goes.
