Halifax golf courses

I'm researching a golf trip for July 2019. We will play the Cabot Lodge courses, but am thinking about playing in Halifax since we have to fly in and out there. Also, there are a few others in the area such as Antigonish and Fox Harb'r.

What courses should we play in the Halifax area?

Is Fox Harb'r worth the drive to play?

Is Antigonish worth playing on the way to Cabot Lodge?

Fox Harbr' is among the top in the province, a little ways from Halifax but if you're driving not hat far out of the way.

Around Halifax Glen Arbor or Brunello would be your best bets.

On Cape Breton Island I would suggest Bell Bay, Highland or the Lakes.

Antigonish is nice but not the same level as the others.

If you are looking for something on the way Ambercrombie in New Glasgow is a course I enjoy. I travel from Halifax to Sydney regularly and try to play a few times a season.

My latest thought is two rounds at Fox Harb'r and four at Cabot Lodge. Six rounds in six days.

If you're up at Fox Harbr, consider playing one round at Fox Harbr and the second at Northumberland Links, which is 10 minutes down the road on the same piece of coastline. It's not quite as spectacular as the other courses on your itinerary but the greens are pure and at $70 CAD it's an excellent deal.

Antigonish is a fine little course but to me, not worth stopping for. I'm a member at Abercrombie in New Glasgow so I'm biased but I'd play here over Antigonish for sure, although waiting til you get up to Cape Breton would be a better idea IMO. Fun courses but nothing amazing.

I’ve basically just done what you’re planning on doing. We did 4 rounds at Cabot and then played fox harbr, links at brunello and glen arbour. Fox harbr is decent but wayyyyyyy over priced. Links at brunello was seriously tough. Glen arbour was ok but that was our 7th round in 4 days and tiredness had crept in. My advice would be to spend an extra day in Cabot. It really is that good

Our trip is shaping up with this itinerary;

One round on arrival day between Halifax and Fox Harb'r

Two nights and rounds at Fox Harb'r

Four nights and rounds at Cabot Links (2 on each course)

So I'm looking at courses for the arrival day when we drive from Halifax to Fox Harb'r.

There are five in Halifax or on the way to Fox Harb'r.

The Links at Penn Hills (most convenient since we will be driving from the airport)

Ashburn Golf Club - New Course

Glen Arbour Golf Course

Links at Brunello (looks like the best track, but it's the least convenient)

Northumberland Links (near Fox Harb'r, so very convenient).

Comments and suggestions?

Nice looking trip.

Played all your potentials

Penn Hills is super convenient, you can actually see a few holes on the back from the highway if you know what you're looking at. A good track but I would consider #5 of the five.

Ashburn & Glen Arbor I would consider 2 & 2A, both pretty easy to get to although the opposite direction from the airport. Ashburn did host a web.com event for a few years.

Brunello I would consider the #1, it is a bit out of the way, but not too bad. Maybe half an hour from the airport exit.

Northumberland is only about 10 minutes from Fox Harb'r. The last time I played there is was the day after the provincial Am. and was in great shape. That was a few years ago but I was told it was typical.

There are a number of others along the way. You may want to look at Oakfield, it's convenient at the first exit leaving the airport heading towards Fox Harb'r and I would consider close to Glen Arbour or Ashburn.

New Glasgow or Antigonish as both are right off the highway and have options. Look for Sobeys or Atlantic Superstore for groceries and NSLC (Nova Scotia Liquor Corp) for liquor.
