That putter looks like it has two different necks welded together. There's evidence of a weld and the mill marks go different directions. Seems kind of odd though... can't image what would be behind that??

Custom neck from ping WRX. I think the story goes they took a long neck and took a chunk out to get the weight and toe flow correct. The info is on hear somewhere.

Kinda hoping this is the year a lefty finally wins the US Open. Been a minute

I hadn't read that, but it makes sense. I'm surprised they couldn't just mill something for him to those specs, but I assume they know what they're doing. FWIW, I prefer the narrative of him smoking it on a tree and having to have it repaired:)

Agree on Phil... it would be very satisfying to see him get it done. He's playing great golf, but you have to think he's running out of chances. Old Man Time is a SOB!

Stainless will rust. Had to send 2 redwood stainless Putters back with the starshot finish. Both had significant rust. Over the years lots of their irons have rusted in cavities. Send them back, no comment are just replaced.

No stainless will not rust - that's the basic definition of stainless. If the something gets impregnated within the surface that can rust along with water/fertilizer/salt, you can get some induced corrosion but the stainless itself doesn't rust on its own.

If anyone is wondering about the specs of Bubba's wedges and putter. They're listed on Ping's website.

They show his putter as carbon steel. So there's that...

Sorry, stainless steel will 100% rust. It is just resistant due to chromium in the metal. It just slows the process.

Kostis said he played regular flex until he made the tour. They were obviously way too soft and he hooked the heck out of them. That’s where all his movement comes from. Incorrect shafts most of his life. He changed to X100’s once on tour but still likes to see the ball curve.

Youʻre right. Took me awhile to find the sequence. I DVR the tournaments so i can watch em at night. Stormed today and i couldnʻt get out to play, was half asleep when he mentioned that. Still amazing if he was hitting those soft shafts in high school and college.

Sorry, no it won't. The chromium reacts with oxygen in the environment and forms a clear thin passivation layer made of CrO. Because of this, the iron cannot react to form FeO (or rust). Even if that layer is damaged, the passivation layer will re-form instantly since chromium is an intermetallic molecule disbursed throughout the entire material (not just at the surface). There is no time dependence on this.

If a stainless head is showing rust, carbon steel or some other rustable metallic has become lodged in the surface and reacts with water, oxygen, and some electrolyte like salts in fertilizer to form rust of the foreign material.
