Most forgiving set of iron with 4 iron loft 22* or higher

So I have been playing PING irons for years and have the G25’s currently. As I look at all the new “forgiving” sets of irons I see 4 irons with lofts mainly 19-21. Can anyone recommend a set of irons that are forgiving without the such strong lofts? And yes I have tried sets with 19-20 degree 4 irons which for me are impossible to hit. Seems like 22-23* in an iron is as low as I can go. I would like a 4-PW set because my gaps are good. A 5-PW is not ideal because my gapping is different with just 6 clubs vs 7. Thanks.

Maltby PTM fits what you’re looking for and looks incredible in black. Competes with any set I’ve ever owned at nearly 1/3-1/2 the price fully built.

I have looked at this but gaps are not as tight. I like having 7 clubs instead of 6 filling the gaps of 23-45 degrees. As stated I am looking to have 7 clubs fill the gap not 6. I tried a TM set for 5-PW and found too many times a round having larger gaps than I would like.

There's a lot of truth to what Pigems and cristphoto are saying (notwithstanding the 0.5" difference in clublength).

However, if that doesn't dissuade you, I'm with bigblock10's suggestion for the Srixons. The 4i is 22* loft. My Z 565s are for sale if you're interested. Feel free to PM me. This set is the hi polished set. Bought new, 3-PW, regular flex and used for two rounds only and ready for a new home so.... :)

You still get the same 7 clubs this way, that’s what I’m trying to say. Now a days you get 5i(22ish*), 6, 7, 8, 9, Pw, GW(48ish*) instead of 4i(22ish*), 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, pw(48ish*). It’s the exact same set, they’ve just swapped the numbers to trick you into thinking you’re hitting the ball a club farther. Just trying share some info is all, I hope you find what your looking for :)

I appreciate the comments but some sets like the Rogue are not spaced the way you are explaining. My PINGS go 4-PW at 23-45. The Rogues go 5-PW at 23-44 so they are using 6 irons for the same gap as my PINGS with 7 clubs. 5 degrees of loft between clubs is too much of a gap in my experience.

You're forgetting about the GW. What he's saying is that instead of the usualy 4-PW you buy the new sets 5-GW and it covers the exact same range. I played the Callaway XR's for a while and the 5 was 22.5* all the way through AW (or GW if you prefer) which was 49*. I don't know about other sets, but that set was very forgiving without being a really big shovel like the pings. The only thing I would change if I went back to them is to get the Pro's, which are .5 to 1* weaker through the set. The AW is 50* instead of 49*. The cally's were really good and I enjoyed them for the time that I had them.

A couple of others said this, but my vote would be to stay within the PING family and get the i200.

Then you'll love the ap1 line.

4i is 22. Pw is 43. 7 clubs. Then u use 2 gap wedges of 47 and 52.

I dislike the number of clubs but I like the consistent distances.

4-Pw in the old lofts is not the same as 5-Gw in the modern lofts. A PW seems to range from anywhere from 43-47° these days most often 44-46 but the set Gap wedge still seems to be sacrosanct at approx 50°.

I agree. I came from ping g to G400 to srixon 565. Love the srixons. My 3,4 iron are u65 with my 3 bent to 19 degrees.

I'm sure you are looking for new sticks, but if you could find a slightly used set of Bridgestone J15 CBs and bend them back to old-school lofts like I did you will be very happy!

Have you thought about having Ping build you a set of G400s to your G25 specs? They can bend the individual irons differently through the set to match the old G25 set. Get your same lie angle and overall length and be good to go.

I have hit the iPINGS and for some reason I did not get along with them so well. I was able to handle the Srizons today and they are nice. Ordered a set so we will see. Plan on keeping the PINGS as well - just in case.
