Getting old OLD clubs back

cardoustie

Recommended Posts

So an old friend contacted me recently and said he wanted me to help him get new irons. I asked him what he did with the old PING ISI steel's I sold him 15 years or so ago ... and he said he was "trading them in." Gadzooks, SAY IT AIN'T SO !!!

I proposed a better plan. Come shop in the bar area of my basement and I will gladly take them off your hands kind sir

So my buddy leaves my house with 58* and 62* Oil Can Vokey's, an Adams 4h, a Ping 7w and a Ping Craz-E steel faced putter.

I see this as a massive win as I have so many extra clubs (50 wedges, 40 fairway woods, etc) in my basement anyways and I like helping buddies out

So these are ISI steel red dot, 3-PW .. plus the s3 and L wedges !!!

They look nice very nice sitting beside my Ping Zing 2's. Sort of a fat parent and thin child thing going on

7 iron sets in the man cave but at least part of the rest of the herd was thinned a whisker, that is justification and denial folks

Oh and I have to now sell my t-mb's to get these new hot i500's.

Anyone else ever get an old set back or re-buy a replacement set of irons for the favorites you should've never let go?

If I hit something good I always try to hold onto it... My one regret was a V-Steel that I used to crush

Not a set of irons but an Odyssey Sabertooth belly putter that I used during my high school golf career. I made almost everything I looked at with it and shot some pretty low numbers, but once the anchoring ban took effect I sold it on eBay. My putting consequently took a nosedive, and I've been hit or miss ever since. Either I make everything with a standard putter or I make nothing. So two months ago I found an identical replacement on eBay and bought it. I obviously can't use it competitively anymore, but it brings back great memories and I still hole a lot of putts when I use it for practice.

No.. I'm a hoarder. I can't bring myself to sell anything. I'll give you an example. I have played a krank f5 driver for however long they have been out. 4 years? UST shaft. Amazing club. Alibf comes the sucks deal on the cobra f7. I buy it, put it in the bag and struggle for a year. I just put the prank back in play and love it more than ever. I should sell the cobra right? Can't do it...dont know why but I cant.

When I first took up golf out of the blue, my wife bought me a set of clubs at a yard sale. After the first few rounds, a guy I'm paired up with says the "L" on the shaft means those are ladies clubs. So, the wife and I ordered me a set of Dunlop Solutions from Sears catalog when we had a few extra dollars. I taught myself how to golf (hack) with those. After a few years of playing the Dunlops and being able to hit some AMAZING shots, and making more money, I buy another set, "King Snake." I sell my Dunlops to a work friend... Years go by and I see him again and we start playing golf together. He has a different set and I ask about the Dunlops, and he sold them awhile back. Few more years go by and he says he going to see the guy with the Dunlops and I told him to buy them back. So long story short (too late), I've got my original set back & purchase a few on ebay in case of loss club or whatnot. They're almost 30yrs old now.

Oh yeah! I had grown up with a set of Eye2s that I didn't intend to get rid of. My cousin took them and messed up the shafts so that set was a goner years ago.

With much luck, I just found an identical set off eBay two days ago and they are being shipped over to me as we speak. As a hoarder who doesn't like part ways with anything I've played with, it's been a great feeling to know that my collection has been fulfilled once more.

Kind of nice to have some like minded folks on here who can identify with. Club Ho's unite !!!

I sold my 845s to a brother of a co-worker (who died in a car accident) long ago for a song out of pity. Regretted it ever since but managed to snag a 1-SW off of Craigslist and are my current gamers to this day.

I bought a secondhand set of MP-4s about 4 or 5 years ago, played them for about a year and a half, then traded them in for something else at the shop I originally bought them at (I forget what I replaced them with). They sat in the shop for about 6 months before I decided to buy them back again.

I sold them last year when I bought a new set of MP-18s, but still miss them...so I have just bought a different set of custom MP-4s off Yahoo Auc!

My Dad just told me he wants me to take my old TaylorMade td preferred irons back from him. He can't play anymore

I used these from about 89-93. Woo Woo !!!! 8 sets

Loved the old hollow body 1, 2, 3 and 4 irons. He lost the 2 iron apparently (my old trusty club for tight holes) but I have the 1 iron in my office.

I took a belly putter and cut it to 38" and backweighted it when the anchoring ban came in to play and I putt well with it. Try to find a second one and cut it down and see if it provides a good bridge. I am still using it.

I used to have a set of those. I got the 1i or 2i, or may be even both, but I never really got on with the hollow body long irons off the fairway. They were great for tee shots, though. I still search Yahoo Auc! occasionally for a set.

Last year when I got back into the game of golf I was looking for a set of ISI's or i10's (had these in my bag when I quit playing around 9 years ago) but never found a set at the price I wanted to pay so ended up with something newer and to me not quite as good.

I did however just recently find a set of i3's that were literally bought new and hit once for a great price. I cannot believe how nice they look and I was gonna use them but now I am not sure if I can bring myself to do that.

I also found a new set of 845s, the hi-polished ones for a good price so I bought them and played them the last two rounds I played so I could just hoard the i3's. lol

Now I would have never thought I would be holding on to 4 irons sets in total and 3-4 drivers plus some odd/ends cheap wedges/putters so gotta make some decisions soon.

Well call me stupid but these freaking ISI's are so easy to hit, easier than almost all the new iron sets I've churned through in a decade and a half

I might need some nickels for crying out loud

They are definitely better thru the turf than Zing2's

A highly addicted club ho, unless he's of substantial means, often needs to sell clubs in order to buy new ones. I play my clubs forever, though, so I've still got all of my clubs since I started to play regularly.

Do you folks like the ISI's similar to the Eye 2's? I can't even count how many Ping irons sets I had....but i always went back to the Eye 2's. The BeCu's are beotchin'

I loved the ISIs and owned all versions of them (my favorite was BeNi with Rifle 5.5 followed closely by steel with JZ stiff). If PING did a run with conforming grooves, that's where'd I'd be right now. As it is, I was lucky enough to find a set of conforming groove EYE2s, so I won't complain...

The Eye 2s had 1-iron offset on the wedges!

I wasn't able to live with that.

The dot color lie angles were good. The one shaft for everybody wasn't.
