Golfing in Oklahoma

Recommended Posts

I have lived here for the past 15 years or so. I played some HS golf for a short while here.

Courses I have played:

Earlywine north/south

Hefner North/south

kickingbird

Jimmy Austin (before reno)

coffee creek (closed)

silver horn (closed)

Belmar

Trosper

Lincoln

-Many more

Im trying to figure out what courses I can get on that are exceptionally kept up. Most seem to be private courses that I will never have a chance to play or are about the same conditions as the courses listed about. I cant believe they closed Silver horn...Loved how they offered yardage books.

Any recommendations or knowledge about how to get on some of the finer courses would be great. ALSO, any courses that offer yardage books would nice as well. I use "The Grint" gps and has worked well but like to see green layouts.

I am willing to drive to tulsa etc from OKC in order to play an exceptional golf course.

Thank you.

That's pretty much it unless you drive somewhere else. Lincoln, West course, is my favorite. Silverhorn was so bad. The layout was great but the conditions were horrible.

You really should try The Territory in Duncan. I may join the club just because it's such a nice place. Great driving range with three par 3 holes. The putting green is huge. The course can be long or short depending on your tee box selection. The course makes you think about shot selection and the OK winds play a big role too. You can't just tee it up and rip it. I wish there were more courses in OKC like this.

I dont mind driving at all....Friday Im going to play Cherokee Hills at the Hard rock in Tulsa. Hoping thats a good course. Surprisingly enough Lincoln West was the first time I played that course since HS and my iron play was horrendous. 270 yard drives straight and couldnt find a GIR :stink:

Honestly, white hawk in Tulsa got bought and has been reconditioned. Besides the aerated greens a few weeks ago, it's been in pretty good condition, best I've seen it in awhile. Bonus points for it cause I live next door :P

Lincoln west in OKC is still my favorite (public course), although I haven't played it in forever.

Blackjack canyon in the Tulsa area is fun to play, but usually is in poor condition.

Hard rock's course is pretty good too. You shouldn't be disappointed there.

I played Hard rock alright....13 over on the front 9 with nothing better than a bogey and then 3 over on the back nine. Maybe because most okc courses are flat i thought i was on a mountain playing. I def want to play some more tulsa area courses. Okc has bored me. Lincoln West was pretty fun. I played miserable but havent played it in 15 years.

Check out Shawnee Country Club sometime, it has a great layout and always in good condition!

Just called them, i guess its fully private now but they "may" be able to squeeze you in for a guest fee of $55 during the week. Sounds like a pretty good price since includes cart and range balls. Hefner and earlywine are $46, Kickingbird is $60 i think now. Thanks for the tip, probably going to check it out within the next couple weeks. Nothing better than taking a day off of work for a an hr drive and a round of golf. :superman:

Best deal in Oklahoma is The Patriot for $125 one time only guest fee. It is a crazy RTJ design, through canyons and trees. You wouldn't think it would be possible to build a course like that here. I like it better than Karsten Creek.

Also Hard Rock for $40 if you have a players card is a good deal.

This year all the courses in Tulsa area were in great shape due to the rains. Canyons at Blackjack Ridge has never looked so good in the past 7 years that I've seen.

Must have been a long time since you played the Canyons. Greens are always great and well kept. At one point in the summer they were better than TCC. I play both often.

I don’t think you can have a conversation about “exceptional” courses in Oklahoma until Karsten Creek is mentioned. A round in early fall will be one of the best you can find. It is pricey, well maybe expensive is more accurate, but a great experience. Do it right and go spend a night in one of the lodges, enjoy dinner and breakfast and then go play.
