Anual Wisconsin golf trip

Got my yearly golf trip with buddies from Florida and one guy from South Bend. I've got a place in Green Lake so that's always home base. They land in Milwaukee Thursday at noon and leave Sunday at 4 so we play 4 days. Always have one day all you can play at Lawsonia and always have one round at Washington County, either on the way from or to the airport.

So that leaves us with 2 days to fill, one being a travel day. For the expensive course day in the past we've done WS, BWR, EH. We've also done a day in Madison playing U Ridge and Hawks something or other next door to UR. Candidates for the non travel day include Sentry World, Mamoth Dunes, go back to Madison and play UR, go back to Kohler and play BWR or Irish/Meadows. Also up for any suggestions on a place we might've missed. Green Lake is pretty centrally located, can get to pretty much anywhere within 1.5 hours and we don't mind a bit of a daily drive.

For the travel day we've done all sorts of courses. Last time we did Bull at Pinehurst Farm. for that we look for something that is on the way or not too far off the path of Milwaukee - Green Lake. Was thinking Brown Deer, but looking at the course photos it looks a little too narrow and tree-laden for my liking. I hear the Bog kinda sucks. What about Morningstar? Any good? Any other recs for a good course to play on one of the travel days? Could always just go play Lawsonia again on the Sunday morning and then head to the airport, not sure if my guys want to play same course twice in one trip. I don't mind, but I'm also the guy who's playing the Links 5 days in a row this coming weekend so I might be a tad biased :)

Temp greens. But, we're thinking about Mamoth Dunes, but I want to make sure it's in pristine condition before committing. Also, not sure if I can walk 18 holes this summer. still don't have much stamina since getting a new heart valve.

Have you played The Bog in Saukville or The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls?

I’ve heard temp greens at Sand Valley.

I’m a big Brown Deer fan. It’s certainly an old tree lined course, but I wouldn’t call it overly tight.

I haven’t played Sentry World, but hear it’s really nice.

Sentry World is always in amazing condition

Wild rock, Morningstar are both solid. I really don’t care for the bog. Brown Deer is also a good spot; lots of trees but is playable.

For a good value & decent course also consider broadlands.

I'll throw another vote in for Brown Deer. It's a solid track and they have a nice plaque with Tiger on it to commemorate his first professional shot, so that's kind of fun. It certainly has trees, but it is not overly offensive compared to most courses in the midwest. The Bog is fine, but nothing special. I would not play Morningstar

Morningstar is a nice course. If you went there and wanted to get another round in nearby, The Broadlands is fun or Naga-Waukee in Delafield is a personal favorite and very well taken care of for a county owned course.

Check out Castle Rock GC at Northern Bay. A few replica holes plus decent originals. Fun course!

You may want to play the two 18-hole courses at Lake Arrowhead, a couple miles away from Sand Valley. I remember it being a fun day but it's been over 20 years. I would be interested to know how it's doing with Sand Valley right down the road. My guess is it will either be great or awful. But, I remember it being a very nice complex back in the day...

Yeah, Castle Rock wasn't bad. The replica of Bay Hill's 18th and Sawgrass' 17th are pretty cool.

Agreed. Thought the "Church Pews" hole was a decent replica, too.

I think that's a fair assessment. I'd definitely play Sentry World or Wild Rock before CR.

Castle Rock is not the course with replica holes. That's The Castle Course at Northern Bay. With that said, I was not very impressed with The Castle Course at Northern Bay. I've never played Castle Rock. Looks like it is somewhat close to The Castle Course, which may have led to the confusion.
