Was I actually a scratch golfer for a few weeks?

For the last few months, I have been playing infrequently and poorly, so I have not been paying any attention to handicap whatsoever. This morning I thought I would have a peek to see how much damage had been done. My handicap is still at 1.0 (somehow), but there was also an even bigger surprise.

In January, I relocated back to Australia from New Zealand. I joined a new club in Melbourne and imported my 0.9 handicap index. First round on the new course (February 18) I hit even par....next time I played (February 25) my handicap index was 0.0, but course handicap was 1.0 (given the course has a slope of 126).

For a few weeks at least, was I a scratch golfer?

Have to wait until the next revision to see what your actual HC is.

    Goeff,

Definition. According to the USGA, a scratch golfer is defined as "a player who can play to a Course Handicap of zero on any and all rated golf courses. A male scratch golfer, for rating purposes, can hit tee shots an average of 250 yards and can reach a 470-yard hole in two shots at sea level.

As per the definition of the word, if you’re a 0.0 handicap then you’re a “scratch” player. So for that one round you were a 0.0 for the day... congrats!!

Well, here is the deal. You are already near scratch, which is half the battle. Handicaps fluctuate based on how many, and how good your scores are. I'd say you played scratch golf, are capable of scratch golf, or better. Don't worry about it, it'll drive you nuts!....lol

If your index was 0.0, then your course handicap is 0..

    0 * 126 / 113=0
