Love Treetops.....one of my favorite places to go for a buddies trip and they have some great golf courses with amazing views. I am actually headed up there on Monday to play the Premier and the Signature so I can report back on conditions. They offer some of the best deals in Northern Michigan and I am getting 2 rounds of golf and a nights stay for $115. Its not Forest Dunes but Treetops is still a great place to go for a guys trip.

Wow, that's a good deal. I didn't like the Fazio course at all, but like the RTJ course. I looked online and it says $130-175 to play RTJ, what am I missing? I wanna play RTJ again to see if I think it's still good. I believe i heard a management company is running Treetops because they were in bankruptcy, put their tee sheets look booked online? Why is FD better then Treetops?

I have always enjoyed the Masterpiece a LOT more than the Premier course. The Signature course is the most underrated imo.

We had the most incredible day at Forest Dunes last week. We played Thursday and pulled up to a nearly empty parking lot. As we dropped the clubs, the cart kids said we would have the course to ourselves and we could head out anytime we wanted. We checked in, warmed up and headed to the first tee and the started told us there were only 6 people on the course (an hour ahead of us) and there was NOBODY behind us! The course was ours. Play as fast or slow as you want. It was incredible. I hadn't played there in over 15 years so I had completely forgotten a few holes. We finished a couple and said "Had I known, I would have played that differently" and then laughed and headed back to the tee to play it differently!! Very cool. Starter said it was VERY unusual and the tee sheets have been full all summer. We certainly lucked out.

Treetops is solid but it's certainly resort golf with an emphasis more on views than hole quality....That being said, the courses there strike a much better balance that most. The masterpiece is actually a solid course that is tough but fair. I agree that the Signature is a little underrated as is the traditions course. The nice thing here is that you can stay on property and not have to leave...and there are a good selection of other courses within a 30 minute drive.

Forest Dunes is just a solid golf course. It's in great shape and a fun but solid layout. Conditioning used to be much better here but I would suspect that has changed somewhat as I'm sure they are getting more rounds with their increased publicity. The drawback is there isn't anything else around the property. The only other golf courses worth playing are those at Garland Resort 45 minutes away.

a lot of it is just recency bias as well... with no tracks in the "rankings" Treetops gets overlooked often.

as soon as Golfweek/Digest/whoever publish a "Best Par 3 Courses in USA" rankings and Threetops is in the top 5 (which it should be cause its great) people will wanna make a point to get out there. Its sad but true

Having visited both multiple times i def prefer FD cause i personally enjoy the golf only secluded experience. but Treetops has 4 tracks of good to great quality.

Treetops still gets an absolute boatload of play yearly. pricing deals they often have help cause FD and AB are only going to get more expensive as they head towards the Bandon, Streamsong, Sand Valley type resorts that they wish to become

Just got done playing the Fazio course and it was in amazing shape. The course was great and the greens we’re outstanding.

Playing the Signature course in the morning

By the way.... staying in the newly renovated rooms and they are Fantastic.

Treetops for a buddies trip is hard to beat especially if you’re on a budget
