Taylormade M3 & M4 not selling?

Hedgehog

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

haven't seen a single M3 or M4 driver in play at my course this year, or on any course in fact. I live in Europe so maybe this is just the situation here?

A lot of tour guys using them but they are paid to use them and can get them cherry picked custom as they prefer off the tour truck.

Have M3 & M4 flopped? M1 & M2 2016 & 2017 were really everywhere in club players bags, especially M2 2017 was a sure hit.

Have seen a lot of Rogue and G400 in the bags of normal players..

Personally I tried them both but the twistface just made my misses worst, could not game them. Do you think 2019 models will drop the Twistface or will they double down on it and take a risk?

I'm currently gaming the M4 as I found it better overall consistency than the previous M2's but I have seen no-one else with either M3 or M4. Even the plus caps at my club played the M2 over M1.

I have to think Twistface will quietly disappear the way "loft up" disappeared within 8 months of the original SLDR campaign. Many decent golfer s I know have tried the M4 on course and been hitting it miles offline. Is it Twistface? There's something to it I'm sure as on the occasional mis-hit I'll see a shot shape and think WOW I was not expecting that but it has "worked" in my favour so far. Out the middle it is just an absolute bomber though and for me is significantly longer than my peers hitting the G400 and Rogues...yes that is down to me but I've not seen anything in the last few months that's made me think the M4 isn't a great club.

It has been years since I saw a driver as popular among the weekend and older retired guys I play with as the M4 has been since roughly February of this year. Of the last 30 people I’ve been in a foursome with, nearly half of them have a.m. M4

I got mine in April after a 6-week stretch where every single weekend a new person showed up with one and they all had great results.

So many players in my regular groups have an M3/M4 driver right now, the runner up is easily the F8+.

But the idea that its not selling well seems very far fetched.

IMO, The "Twistface" description in the name doesn't exactly instill confidence. I think the average player doesn't want his/her clubs twisting more than they already do.

There seems to be a certain inevitability when it comes to marketing and technology, especially with TM I think; a real big idea gains traction and widespread acceptance (R7, R11, SLDR, M1/M2) and there are ~3-4 years spent in the interim trying to iterate on and improve the initial big idea while also trying to explore what the next big idea is going to be. I doubt that golf history is going to remember "Twist Face" which makes sense given that this is now the third iteration of the initial big idea and has reached the "Ballz-IER" jump the shark phase. I will be curious to see what they come up with next.

I have seen a few in play here. But definitely not as many as I saw of the M1/M2 when they were first released.

Same here, more M1 and M2 in bags over M3 and M4 but I see several bags with Twistface drivers. I'm using M3 right now but I don't see much difference over 2017 drivers. It is the shaft that makes it work for me.

I have a EPIC Sub Zero and moving to M3 today, just prefer the feel.

Interesting thing at The Amateur Championship, the M3 was by far the most used driver, even by players who were clearly sponsored by other companies.

at my club the OG M1 M2 are still king. A few guys are using M3 M4. Good friend of mine is using the M4 and loves it. I will be switching to it soon and the only reason is cause i llike the way it looks at setup compared to my M1 and M2. I think people are buying and keeping the new M4 cause i can't find to many on used club sites.

Different area's will be flooded with different heads because of a few factors (mainly because certain shops in that area push certain products). Last time I was told numbers I believe Callaway is #1 by a good amount, then Ping, then TM, then Cobra.

Other than seeing them on the racks at my local Golftown, I've never seen an M3 or M4 on the course or even at my local driving ranges.

I can only provide anecdotal evidence, but we have a lot of TM customers coming in to compare the M3/M4 to their old M2s. They usually leave with their M2. We have seen across the board, the M2 being a much better driver from raw numbers and in fittings. To be honest, the new drivers have helped our re-fitting side of the business.
