u.s. open qualifier

I would wear pants. It looks more professional than shorts...

Pants - it is technically a professional event. One of my good buddies made it to one of the final stages of qualifying as an amateur last year, and I asked him the same question. You can wear shorts, but it is proper to wear pants.

First, I would learn how to spell correctly. Kidding of course but you really should pay more attention to small details like that. I am sure it shows up in your scores occasionally.

For real though, you need to be comfortable in your round, so wear what you are accustomed to wearing on your normal rounds. You need to feel as if this round is just like when you are out on the course by yourself at 7 at night just hitting good shots. I have played in a few sectionals with tour players and they wear shorts so be at ease and play hard.

Tiger Woods wore shorts at almost all of his US AMs. So why can't you?

Wear what your comfortable with. I've seen PGA pros wear shorts during the local and sectional qualifiers, it's not like you'll be on TV or interviewed or anything.

If you normally wear shorts, wear shorts. Being comfortable is important (being proper is not), one less thing to worry about. Get to bed early and good luck to you tomorrow. Let us know how it goes when you get home.

Honestly, I dont think it really matters. Wear what you think is comfortable. Everyday Mr. Furyk comes to our course to practice, he is always in shorts and he has to wear pants on the PGA Tour

I wore pants. For me it seems more professional and I always wear pants at my tounies

if it is warm, wear shorts, you aren't on tour, I would rather be comfortable and look less professional, If i dont have to wear pants i wont

take both and whatever you see most of on the day go for it

why? if its warm enough, then take the pants just in case you show up and the club doesnt allow shorts, but going and looking so that you can fit in with the majority doesnt really make sense

Whatever's comfortable is what I roll with. It's nice to look good but it's better to be prepared for the weather.

Because this is the US Open, but anyway, I would do as the others say and wear what you usually wear, you'll score your best.

As others have said, dress for the weather, and what you're comfortable with. Forget what other people think.

Oh Yeah i forgot...shott 75 missed it by 2 and i wore pants......

I was reading GolfWorld last night and they had a section titled "10 thing you'll never see again at the U.S. Open." Apparently in 1983 at Oakmont there was this guy named Forrest Fezler and he wore shorts in his U.S. Open practice rounds. Then during the last round, he went into the port-potty on the 18th tee, changed into shorts, and played the last hole in them (Wiki). Thought it was interesting.

Well, just saw on The Golf CHannel where Rocco was wearing shorts in his qualifier.
