Locked and loaded for Scotland

I’m headed to Scotland in 2 weeks, playing a bit of everywhere for 10 days... Nairn, Castle Stuart, and Royal Dornoch to start. Old Course, Kingsbarns, and Carnoustie to finish. My girlfriend just got me a new bag for my birthday, so figured it was a good time to capture the setup I’m taking over.

(but I reallllly wish I could get that new TM Gapr Lo 2 iron for the occasion??)

You think you’ll head back again? This will be the second trip for me. Went for the first time in 2013, but more to attend the Open, with less days of playing golf. This time is a golf and whisky only mission.

Funny you ask. I used to be an all-Titleist bag. Everything. For as long I could remember.

So this current bag started out as an effort to replace my irons. I gamed a set of 690MBs, but I needed something more forgiving now that I don’t have the time to play as much as I used to. Went into a fitting blind, assuming I’d land on a set of AP2s, but these forged PSi’s were just magical for me. Exactly what I was looking for in that they still have a blade-like address, but tungsten weighting and a cavity back to add some forgiveness.

Then this past winter/spring I wanted to upgrade the woods. I was coming from a 910, and just assumed I’d move into a 917. Hit every driver I could, but the M3s came out on top. Same with the M4 hybrid over my H1 (which I had no intention of replacing, but I couldn’t deny the metrics). It’s like I woke up one morning and was suddenly a TaylorMade Guy.

The wedges though. I’m just still so in love with Vokey’s feel and weight. I also like their approach to the different grinds and bounces; more conventional F grind vs stuff like the M and D being optimal for laying/closing the club face. I have the same 52 and 56 in both 8* and 12* for different conditions and times of the year. Tbh, I haven’t ever demo’d TM wedges. They look great, and I’m sure I’ll be lured into crossing that bridge at some point... but still a Vokey fan for now.

Great bag. I'm a PSI player as well and I love them. Tried a set of PTx this season and quickly went back to the Taylormades.

If you fancy a tour around a hickory club factory while you are in the area the St Andrews Golf Co. is just 5 miles south of St andrews in Largoward. Well worth a visit!

Have a great time, I was there for a week in June and had a blast. Just as important as your clubs are the other gear, the waterproofs, waterproof golf shoes (2 pair), waterproof hat (for when its too windy for an umbrella), and rain gloves. The current dry spell can't last forever!

Oh god, I hear ya. I’m trying to come as prepared as possible, but hoping for dry conditions. Hadn’t thought about more hat options though, good call.
