23/5/19 update: Locking trail leg in transition

I've been slicing the ball pretty badly the last couple of weeks so I've tried strengthening my grip and I'm taking the club back more closed (amongst other things), which has seemed to got rid of the left to right. I've also never really had shaft lean at impact, i've always hit a very high weak flighted ball, but since working on the above, I'm now de-lofting at impact which is a bonus.

Since recording my swing a lot lately I've noticed two moves I do that i think are holding me back, both on the vids below. The first is that when I address the ball my trigger to begin the swing is to move my right hand/thumb over the shaft to a super weak position. I didn't even realise i was doing this until seeing it on video.

The second move is in transition I straighten my trail leg nearly locking it!? Most player flex it coming down but I seem to straighten it? Whats causing this? It feels natural to me.

Low point has always been an issue for me, mainly fat shots.

There's probably other glaringly obvious faults other than the two I've picked up on so I'd be happy to hear and appreciate any advice you can give on my current swing, Thanks

Trail leg straightening in downswing is in a vid further down page

Looks painful! I wouldn’t do that anymore. That isn’t what the best players in the world do. The best players regain flex on their knees and regain pelvic tilt on the downswing.

Basically if you had a tee in your belt buckle it would point several feet past the ball line at the top of your swing in transition make the tee tilt down and point at the ball line or there abouts. Your put should go backwards and you will feel a stretch in your hamstrings.

Beware this will throw your hands toward the ball line. You might have to get your hands deeper at the top to avoid getting your hands too far in front of you.

This Justin James long drive champion. You need a mini version of what he does with his hips in transition.

Yes, it will throw your swing off until you get use to it like any change but this isn’t optional for you...are going to do serious damage to you right hip

Wow, he's giving that some stick!

I've experimented before with flexing the right leg in transition and squatting but whenever I do I seem to get stuck on the back foot, and like you said I cut across the ball massively.

Any other swing thoughts I could try? Or is it just a case of flex the right leg and stick with it?

Thanks airjammer, yeah its not good, I'm obviously doing something majorly wrong. After a round my trail hip is always painful and aching. Regaining flex feels so unnatural and totally throws my swing out.

I've mistakenly deleted them vids above but here is another link if anyone else has any ideas? Thanks

See if you can load the inside of your trail foot during the backswing, keep the knee slightly bent and angle it in slightly to match your foot pressure. Hope this helps.

You need to gain anterior pelvc tilt (lumbar lordosis) in the downswing.

Belt buckle tilts closer to your feet, butt goes back and you will probably feel a stretch in your hamstrings.

This will throw your hands out in front of you therefore your path will be further left. You will hit slices or pulls until you get your hands deeper at the top

There isn’t one thing that is going to make your swing work the way it is...sorry

UPDATE:

Thought i'd update the thread. I'm still working on the trail leg move in transition, I still slip in to old habits if I'm not monitoring it but its starting to look a lot better on video plus the downswing is feeling so much easier on my legs. Looking for advice to make sure I'm heading in the right direction. To me it looks better but maybe im blocking my right elbow with my right hip? I'll upload a before and after to make it easier (video quality is not great.)
