My minimalist WITB

slide13slide13 Members Posts: 1,327 ✭✭
I put the final finishing touches on my bag recently with a new 3 wood and some new headcovers. So here is my 7 club minimalist setup.

3 wood - TEE EX10 Beta 13* with Rogue Max 75X

Irons - Muira CB57 4/6/8/PW w/DG S300

Wedge - Miura 55C bent to 56 w/DG S300

Putter - Byron DH89 with Pingman grip

Bag - MacKenzie nylon

Headcovers - Seamus and Sugarloaf Social Club

Treste sticks by Claret Dreamer

Really loving this setup. Been looking for a 3 wood that could replace driver for me and finally found it in this Exotics. I hit it basically as long as my driver but can also hit it off the deck surprisingly easy.

This is a dedicated minimalist setup, I only purchased the even irons so I don’t have the odds sitting around. Thanks to Chip Usher for being willing to build and sell me a half set of these!
Minimal: Titleist 913 D3 / Cobra F8 4w / Miura CB57 4/6/8/P / Miura 55C / Byron DH89 / Mackenzie

Sweet set-up. Do you play this all the time, or just occasionally?

Thanks! Started with the bag years ago and always wanted to do a dedicated minimal set and finally got to do it this year.

Here are some of my accessories in the bag that I keep in two flannel drawstring bags my mother sewed up for me. Large one for balls and small for tees, markers, pitch tool, etc.

I’d say 80% of the time so far this year. When I walk I play this...and I strongly prefer to walk. But I do have another full set (see sig) that I’ll take when forced to ride in a cart. This year it’s mostly been for scrambles I’ve played in.

Awesome all around. I may just have to cook up a little something like this of my own.

Been a minimalist for some years. Usually a 3W, 5,7,9,SW, and Bulls Eye putter, in a Jones carry bag. Some years ago, I gamed a Walter Hagen Sunday bag, gotten at ****'s. A small grey and black bag, literally made a Jones bag feel like a staff bag. Wore out in a few years. The bag was discontinued at ****'s soon after I bought the last one at my local store.

A month or so ago, I bought the identical bag in mint condition on Ebay. Played it with five clubs Sunday, need at least one or two more clubs to make an easy carry. Gamed 6 clubs yesterday.

    A joy to carry.

To be honest I don't think there was a time i ever used all 14 clubs. I understand wanting the full compliment when playing a new course for just-in-case scenarios but I played one this past Sunday and never used my 3 wood, 5 iron, 7 iron, or LW and there was another 2 or 3 clubs i shouldn't have used as it ended up getting me into more trouble. If i ever get to the point where some of my normal golfing buddies want to try and walk for exercise I may have to try a similar minimalist setup

No changes for me, the above is how I finished the season up in Wisconsin and likely how I'll start off next season as well. Only change we might see is the 3 wood and not because I want to change but due to a bit of a mishap (wet day, bad swing, foot slipped.....excuses galore) I ended up with a big dent on the toe of this one image/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> It actually still seems to play fine though so I'm probably going to plan to keep playing it unless I find something else to try. Also might just try to find an exact replacement for it if I can get my hands on one for a good price. I've never loved a 3 wood this much so I'd love to stick with it if my ego can get over the dent or find a another copy of it.

I never really played with 14 much either...and when I did it just felt like a lot of clubs and not in a good way. 12 was a good number for a full set but these days I just enjoy playing minimalist more. I've honestly never loved playing golf as much as I have this season and at least some of that credit goes to this setup. I made sure to include only clubs I truly love using and same with the bag and accessories. It makes every round, no matter how good or bad the round goes, a fun experience for me.

Thanks for all the kind words on the bag everybody!
